I’m Cuckoo For The OGX Kukui Oil Hair Line

I’m Cuckoo For The OGX Kukui Oil Hair Line

If you know me,  you know know I’m a sucker for a good hair product. If it can handle thick, coarse, wavy, mind-of-its-own highlighted hair, then I’m whipping out my wallet. I was meandering around Caroline Hiron’s site looking for skincare solutions the other day and stumbled upon this post on the OGX Kukui Oil line. Like Caroline, they are the first products I have tried from OGX and, I too am “completely sold”.

Day 2, after a day at the beach

Day 2, after a day at the beach

They perform like salon quality products, and are happily drugstore priced. Sometimes my scalp is finicky, and everything I use makes me itch. I never have flakes, but I get an itchy scalp when I use clarifying shampoos (or when my hair needs a wash heh heh). The Kukui Oil Shampoo and Conditioner leave my hair clean, soft and bouncy. They contain small amounts of a water soluble silicone, so I have had zero issues with buildup or dulling residue. The conditioner is perfectly detangling and my hair feels soft. They smell somewhat tropical, with the shampoo smelling better than the conditioner, to my nose, but neither lingers that long (vs a LUSH conditioner I just tried – whoa Nelly….post to come). The lingering scent is just “clean”.

Day 3 - I woke up like this. Really.

Day 3 – I woke up like this. Really.

I use a tiny amount of It’s A 10 leave-in spray conditioner before combing out my wet hair, and then apply the OGX Kukui Oil Curl Cream. This may be my new favourite wavy hair product in the world. Seriously, it is amazing. It is not remotely sticky or stiff, and feels invisible in my hair, yet my waves/curls last forever. I still use the curling rod on the crown, but hardly at all as my own wave stays put with OGX Kukui Oil Curl Cream. I went a couple days without even combing it (the things I do for you, dear reader….) that included a day at the beach, and my curls did. Not. Budge. Verdict? Love!

I got my OGX Kukui Oil products at Ulta, but they are also at drugstores, Walmart and Target. Products were $8.99 USD each.

How Perfume Boredom Led To i smell great™

How Perfume Boredom Led To i smell great™

Regular readers of my blog know that I can count the number of times I’ve written a rave review about a newly released perfume on one hand. I love perfume, and I love writing about perfume, but the only perfumes that have interested me enough to write about have either been niche, which often means expensive and/or hard to find, or vintage and vanished from the market. I hoard my vintage perfumes that will never be made again, and I resent having to pay a fortune for some niche brand that uses the same ingredients as everyone else.

By now everyone knows about i smell great™, the perfume brand created by Randi Shinder and myself. Randi created and launched three beauty brands that were so groundbreaking they formed new categories in fragrance and skin care. And, we are both perfume junkies, in the truest sense of the word. We eat, sleep and breathe perfume. We obsess about scents and flavours all. The. Time. Stimulate our sense of smell or taste, and we are already dreaming about how this or that would work in perfume. Both of us have been obsessive “noses” since we can remember. Scents haunt us, and they haunted us until we captured them and bottled them, like perfume ghosts.

Randi and I would often get so excited about a scent we would hear about. Then, we’d try it and find it was pretty much exactly the same as many many perfumes before it. Cue the sad trombones. Newsflash: the industry is full of imitation. If one perfume has commercial success, wait for every other designer to release a perfume that smells “similar”. They copy the successful one, maybe tweak it a tiny bit (and maybe not) and then call it something else. Just wander around any perfume department and smell all the top sellers. A well developed nose will be able to find the sameness in everything.

The names are often ridiculous and have nothing to do with what the perfume smells like. Reveal, Downtown, Encounter and how about 18 different editions of Eternity for women and another 14 Eternity versions for men? Oy. Sorry, Calvin, but you aren’t even trying anymore. Talk about phoning it in.

Then there is this business of “notes” in perfume. It used to mean a lot more, and still does with some niche and artisanal perfumers. But for most mainstream perfumes, that cacophony of  top, middle and base notes aren’t really telling us what the perfume smells like. It’s ad copy. It’s a romantic idea of the scent. Yes, yes, some of those synthetic molecules are meant to smell like certain things, but that doesn’t mean assembling them together as if you are Jacques Guerlain (SPOILER ALERT: YOU ARE NOT) is going to create another Shalimar. It’s like a habit that the consumer thinks they need to know. Do you? I know I don’t care. I want to know if it smells good, and those vague and random recipes and notes rarely tell me anything about the scent.

So. Why not make perfumes for the masses, why not make perfumes for those who really just want to wear an uncomplicated scent that just smells great? Why not make perfumes that don’t cause headaches, perfumes that don’t choke everyone around you with chemical scent enhancers that elevate perfume projection to nuclear levels? Yes, lady who bathes in Angel before getting on that elevator, I’m looking at YOU. Stop. Now.

I can’t wait to share how Randi and I came to create our perfumes. How the things we loved became perfumes. How the scented products that accompany the perfumes have bases that were just as important as the perfumes. I challenge you to spray your hands with i smell great™ Wellness Water Fragrance Mist. The luxurious base of purified water and skin-healthy ingredients means you can rub it in and it will feel great as well as smell great. Go ahead and try that with a mainstream body mist. Be careful though, it will probably dissolve your nail polish.

Stay tuned for more of our story!

Tresemme Keratin Smooth – Silky Hair That Won’t Break The Bank

Tresemme Keratin Smooth – Silky Hair That Won’t Break The Bank

Tresemme has been around for ages, and is a trusted drugstore brand. It’s not expensive, but is also gentle on hair, and I know many women who swear by their products. So I was keen to try their latest offering, 7 Day Keratin Smooth. It joins the popular trend of using protein in hair products to help smooth our hair. My favourite keratin hair line is Liquid Keratin, but it is a salon line, and is more expensive than the Tresemme.

I used the Trememme Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, and must say they were lovely. The shampoo lathered gently, and rinsed out beautifully, leaving my hair smooth and not tangled. I added the Keratin Smooth Conditioner, and left it on for around 4-5 minutes. Again, it rinsed out easily and left my hair silky and easy to comb. The products have a gentle and somewhat generic fruity scent that does not linger in the hair, and does not offend.

Tresemme 7 Day Keratin Smooth

Day 1 after my blowout. It is a warm humid day, but my hair doesn’t care!

I added the Keratin Smooth Heat Activated Treatment to my damp hair and let it air dry for around 30 minutes. Then, I used the Conair Tresemme Keratin Smooth hair dryer and medium/small round brush to blow out my hair. Not pin straight, as I am not  fan of that look, and find it looks unnatural on me. Using the brush I added a slight flip at the ends of my hair. Then, I finished it with a few drops of Live Clean Exotic Oils Keratin Oil with plant-based silicone alternatives.

Tresemme 7 Day Keratin Smooth Daly Beauty

Tresemme 7 Day Keratin Smooth – Day 3

Verdict? I like the Tresemme 7 Day Keratin Smooth collection, and as a drugstore option I’d say you can’t go wrong with this line! All products are under $10 CAN. My only concern would be the silicones. Time will tell if they build up, or if one would have to regularly clarify the hair. Other than that, I’d say if you are looking for an affordable solution to fight frizz, try the Tresemme!

Turn Back Time With Live Clean Age Resist Haircare Line

Turn Back Time With Live Clean Age Resist Haircare Line

I love Live Clean – their hair products are gentle and effective, and I always have them in my shower. My daughter has sensitivities to sulphates, and my younger daughter has oily scalp – and both have colour treated hair that tends to dryness. The Live Clean Professional Damage Therapy Repair line and the Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying line are staples. Besides doing what they promise, the products feel luxurious and smell good.

The Age Resist organic hair care line includes shampoo, conditioner, a 10-in-1 treatment and a nutrition oil that target and address the symptoms of aging hair such as dryness, breakage, dullness and changes in texture. Free of, paraben, phthalate and phosphates, as with all Live Clean products. What really appealed to me was the 10-in-1 Treatment Cream, and how it promises to smooth and soften with a plant based silicone alternative. I have a difficult relationship with silicone and prefer to not use it if possible. Silicone builds up in the hair, and just like in our ecosystem, does not break down. It also leaves a large carbon footprint. Live Clean’s plant-based silicone alternative smooths and softens without the weight.

The Age Resist 10 in 1 is a real winner! It’s perfect for smooth and straight blow outs, and also for working silky soft waves! I have been using the shampoo and conditioner and love them as well. They make my hair soft and clean without weighing it down. One of the best parts is the scent – it is similar to the Professional Damage Therapy Repair line. It reminds me a bit of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. So pretty!

As natural as Robert Redford washing your hair with rainwater.

This line is definitely not limited to ageing hair, but is for anyone with hair that needs some gentle TLC. My daughters use it too when their hair needs some love. Verdict – LOVE! I get Live Clean at the drugstore, and I think Walmart carries it as well.

Daly Beauty Quick Tips – Lazy Girl Hair

Daly Beauty Quick Tips – Lazy Girl Hair

Planning to wear your hair wavy? Here is my lazy girl method: shampoo in the evening, and style in the morning. After shampooing, and using my Goody Quik Style comb and brush to remove excess water, I apply my leave-in conditioner and styling products.

ICON India Curl Cream

ICON protein gel

For wave, I am using ICON Protein Gel and ICON India Curl Cream. I comb them though, lightly scrunch, and leave it. When I wake up in the morning, my hair is silky soft and dry, and ready to style. Using my curl rod ( I like the TIGI one here), I add loose waves – either just a few sections on the crown, for a natural beachy look, or all over , for a more 70s disco glam look. ICON India Curl Cream holds that style in place.

With the help of Batiste dry shampoo, I can usually go up to five days between shampoos. I just twist my hair up for luxe baths between shampoos. In this fast world, I don’t think we take enough long, hot baths. I line up my favourite podcasts – ususally Wiretap – and just soak.

Retro Hair Care Must-Haves That Are Still Awesome

Retro Hair Care Must-Haves That Are Still Awesome

I love many brads of hair care . My main criteria is do they get the job done, as well as appeal to my sense of smell and touch. How new and cutting edge they might be is of little concern. As long as they work. And there are some old favourites I’ve used for years and years.

If you have dry, damaged and/or colour treated hair, you need Joico K-PAK Reconstructor. It’s the original protein treatment for your hair, and does the trick like nothing else on fragile hair – the banana scent takes me back to the eighties. And perms, because who knew I had wavy hair? Not me.  I also have and love the K-PAK Liquid Reconstructor as a leave-in treatment. It’s per. The key to K-PAK success, however, is using it right. Firstly, do not over use. Once a week or even once every two weeks is enough. It builds protein in the hair, not moisture, so your hair might be structurally better, but can get dry if you are using it too often. Secondly, always follow your K-PAK Reconstructor treatment with a deep moisturizing conditioner or conditioning mask. If used correctly, the end result is silky manageable hair. I always have Joico K-PAK Reconstructor in my shower.

Light Blue Shade Shampoo dry hair review

If you have blonde hair, either dark or light, natural or chemical, you NEED a violet shampoo. Violet shampoos work to counteract the brassy, orange or yellow tones that blonde hair can take on. Even green – tap water has enough chlorine in it to slightly tint very light hair. Using a violet or purple shampoo adds a lovely soft “ashy” tint to your hair, keeping it looking fresh and rich. It is perfect for naturally grey hair as well, which tends to get yellow. There are many different kinds of purple hair products on the market, with different intensities of violet, and each one will differ in how much tone it deposits on your hair. Over the years I’ve used many, from drugstore to salon quality, and have always ended up back at the classic Clairol Shimmer Lights. Shimmer Lights Shampoo is ok, but the colour deposit really only works well if you use the conditioner as well. I found that using both of these products left my hair dry and weirdly straw-like. I saw Light Blue Shade for Dry Hair shampoo at the drugstore a couple months ago and must say I love it. It adds the perfect touch of violet, but more importantly, it treats my hair gently. It rinses out cleanly, leaving my hair silky vs a tangled mess. I use it a few times a month as well, in place of my regular shampoo, and follow with my favourite conditioner. As a blonde, I can’t imagine not having my violet shampoo.

And of course, you all know that I still like to use Pond’s Cold Cream and Dove Soap. What are your favourite retro beauty tips? Share!

Fight Frizz & Soothe Dry, Misbehaving Hair

Fight Frizz & Soothe Dry, Misbehaving Hair

I love summer, but there is no question it’s harder on my hair than any other season. I drive a convertible so my carefully toned highlights are subjected to the sun for hours a day, as well as the dirt and grime of the city. If I swim in a pool – chorine. If I swim in an ocean – salt. There is always something. So it’s more important than ever to care for the hair we spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars a lot of money on. So, what to do? Do as I say.

Veronica Lake - reigning Queen of Silky Hair

Veronica Lake – reigning Queen of Silky Hair

Clean that hair:

I am sure to use moisturizing shampoos at all times. My favourites, from high to low:

Kerastase Cristalliste ($37 CAN, 250ml) – fancy schmancy salon brand, moisturizes and uses a bit of silicone for slip and shine. It smells clean and leaves my hair smooth as silk. LOVE!

ICON India Oil Shampoo ($21 CAN, 250ml) – probably my all time favourite hydrating line and brand. Nothing has made my hair softer. Also, has a lovely rich scent. Don’t buy without sniffing – I love it, but it might not be for everyone.

Dermorganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo ($17 CAN, 350ml) – I don’t love this because it is organic. I love it because it pampers my hair, makes it shiny, soft and smell amazing. One of the best “green” hair products I’ve used.

Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo ( $6-7 CAN, 355ml) I love working for Dove, because I have a true love for Dove products. This shampoo smells yummy and clean, rinses out beautifully with no tangles, and leaves my hair silky. It does contain some silicones, but they seem to be water soluble, as I don’t get any build up with Dove Daily Moisture. Best value hair products out there!

Now you have to deep condition that hair!  I love:

Kerastaste Cristalliste Masque Cristal ($58 CAN, 200ml) – I can’t imagine not having this.  I’d never used until recently but it makes my hair so soft and well behaved. Expensive, but if your hair is thick, coarse and processed, it’s totally worth it. Works beautifully with the Cristalliste Shampoo and Serum.

Klorane Mask With Mango Butter ($24, 150ml) – The Klorane Mask with Mango Butter sinks right in and left my hair tangle free , with super soft locks that were easy to comb. Love. Ithink this is hard to find in Canada now, easy to find in the US in drugstores.

Dermorganic Masque Hair Repair ( $17 CAN, 350ml) – I really love the Dermorganic line of hair care. This masque is as wonderful as the shampoo, and dry hair drinks it up like crazy. Smells great and is effective at helping improve dry brittle hair. Also good for those with sensitivities.

Dove Nourishing Oil Daily Treatment Conditioner ( $7-8 CAN, 236ml) – It says “Daily” but don’t be fooled, this Dove Treatment is heavy duty and wraps your hair in silky goodness. Excellent for very dry hair, and smells pretty. Gets rid of pouf.

Be gentle when you wrap that hair up in a towel. No rubbing!

Be gentle when you wrap that hair up in a towel. No rubbing!

After showering, wrap you hair in a towel, very gently. The less friction and rubbing you subject your hair to, the better. Every time we rub it, even brush it vigorously, we are roughing up the cuticle of the hair, making it voluminous, stretches it and makes it porous. So the hair sucks up any moisture in the air and “poufs” out. So. Comb gently, and if your hair is long and/or thick, you should use the Goody Quik Style Comb.

Now it’s time to apply your leave-in treatments. These are my favourite frizz fighters:

Aroma M Camellia Hair Oil  ($65 USD, 40ml) – The ultimate treat for your hair! Maria of Aroma M uses the finest oils, including the oil favoured by Geishas, to offer the finest healing and conditioning out there. This is NOT a serum aka silicone treatment, meaning the shine and softness you get when you use this is your actual hair. Apply when damp, then rejoice. If I apply on dry hair, within an hour, my hair has literally absorbed every drop. Will never be without.

Kerastase Cristalliste Serum ($42 CAN, 30ml) – Yes, this is pretty much the Cadillac of hair serums, but worth every penny. If was only to purchase one Kerastase product for no frizz and soft hair, this serum would be it. One or two pumps of this miracle in a bottle ensures silky smooth flowing hair that looks almost like the computer generated hair in the Pantene ads  (you know the ones I mean).  Yes, it has silicone, but just enough to make your hair silky, and it washes out easily. This is a finishing product to be used after conditioning products.

ICON India Healing Spray ( $31 CAN, 250ml) – Simply the best leave in conditioner I have ever used. It is heavy, so if your hair is fine, you’d have to use very little. I would apply this after using Aroma M oil, and before using Kerastase Cristalliste Serum.

Live Clean Professional Damage Restoring Spray ($8, 150ml) – This is one the best leave-in treatments around, and the price is amazing. I love this whole line from Live Clean. The Damage Restoring Spray quenches your hair with moisturizing goodness, as well as smelling delicious. This product is also perfect for finer hair, or hair that is easily weighed down.

Dove Style + Care Frizz-Proof Cream-Serum ( $6-7 CAN, 98ml) – This is a neat hybrid of a styling cream to tame hair, along with some anti frizz properties. A little goes a long way, as there is some silicone in this, and your hair will be smooth as silk. Also easy to use a small amount on dry hair that needs a little calming or polish.

Be gentle when you style...

Be gentle when you style…

So now that you have done everything you can to calm that mane, style away! I like to use a blow dryer on the crown of my hair – bangs, and maybe six to seven pieces on the top – with a small round brush to encourage waves, and let them blend into my own natural waves. Or, blow dry the bangs, and use a curling rod on the crown.  I do not blow dry or straighten my hair in humid weather – there is no point. My hair will slowly but surely start to drink in the moisture in the air and POUF  it’s straight and frizzy from all the brushing during the blow dry. Better to leave it alone as much as possible and work WITH our natural hair texture. I like to wash my hair in the evening and let it dry overnight, so I can style it in the morning. Then, with some Batiste in hand, I can go four or five days between shampoos. Yeah, that’s right.

No frizz for this girl.

No frizz for this girl.

I now use the Bio Ionic Powerlight dryer (purchased from my stylist) as it really helps elminate frizz and speeds up drying time:

My Hair Is Having An Organic Because I Love Dermorganic.

My Hair Is Having An Organic Because I Love Dermorganic.

I recently got to try Dermorganic Daily Conditioning Shampoo and Masque Hair Repair from their haircare line. I was turned onto Dermorganic by My Beauty Bunny (the go-to cruelty free website!) and with my mop of hair, I am always willing to try something for damaged or unruly hair. I will add that I am always dubious of sulfate free shampoos, as most I have used have a hard time cleaning my hair, and it takes so much product to make a dent in the mop. I also have the Dermorganic Treatment Serum but have not had a chance to try it yet!

DermOrganic® products are made using ingredients that are synergistic to your hair and skin to replenish from the outside what your hair and skin need inside for health and vitality. From the shampoo cleansers made from EFA lipids and amino acids, to conditioners blended with vegetable proteins, to treatments rich in natural moisture factors and all based on a proprietary lipid-rich emulsification systems, DermOrganic products outperform standard hair and skin care formulations to deliver exceptional results to salon treated hair.

At DermOrganic® we believe the ingredients we don’t use are just as important as the ones we do.

DermOrganic® products are all vegan.
DermOrganic® products made without animal by-products and are never tested on animals.
DermOrganic® products contain no sulfates, glycols, DEA, MEA, dyes or food coloring
DermOrganic® products are Gluten-free
DermOrganic® products contain no artificial preservatives. Paraben-free
DermOrganic® products are made without salt, sodium chloride or other artificial thickeners

Well. That all sounds pretty noble and incredible. But in the end, dear reader, I admit that I will usually choose performance over feel-good stuff. Thankfully, that’s a choice I don’t ever have to make with Dermorganic. The shampoo is a rich creamy product that feels lovely in my hands as I lathered it up. It did a terrific job of getting down to the roots of my hair to clean, and rinsed out beautifully, leaving smooth hair behind. I usually know my hair has been abused when during the rinse process my hair feels rough and tangled. Then I use the Dermorganic Masque Hair Repair and leave it on while I go through my shower routine. It also rinses out beautifully, leaving silkly soft hair. I must mention how yummy both of these products smell. There is a soft fruity scent with perhaps a tropical/coconut note but not that much, and the overall impression is clean and fresh. I’m very choosy with the scents of my hair and body products and Dermorganic has a winner.

If only you could feel how soft & bouncy my hair is!

If only you could feel how soft & bouncy my hair is!

I can say without question that using the Dermorganic products have made my hair silkier and softer. I love it and will always have in my hair care arsenal.

You can buy Dermorganic from their website, online retailers and from various hair professionals. In Canada you can get it at Trade Secrets!

Kérastase Cristalliste Cristal Sculpt Turns Long, Unruly Hair Into Silk

Kérastase Cristalliste Cristal Sculpt Turns Long, Unruly Hair Into Silk

Screen Shot 2013-07-17 at 09.22.40

Well, I’ve done it. And I’m proud. That’s right – I’ve used a silicone product on my hair, and it’s made my hair so freakin’ silky and manageable I can barely believe it. I received samples of Kerastase Cristalliste Cristal Sculpt, $47 (a serum for long unruly hair) and Masque Cristal, $58 ( a conditioning mask for long hair). Well, I love ‘em both. I’ll talk more about the Masque Cristal in another post, but I can sure tell you how much I love the Cristal Sculpt! It appears that the Cristalliste line is designed primarily for long hair, but even shorter hair that tends to misbehave and is unruly or dry would benefit from these products.

kerastase cristalliste insta products

Yes, it’s a serum. Yes, it has silicone. But it is such a beautifully balanced formula that it avoids the issues one can get from silicone-heavy hair serums. It is also literally balanced in that it is two formulas that come together when you pump the cap. It took a little priming to get the products out simultaneously. Each formula serves a different purpose – one treats and conditions the hair, and the other adds shine and a silky texture. It also seems to be particularly beneficial for long unruly hair. From Kerastase:

This product’s unique characteristic is its dual-action  effectiveness: a serum to repair the hair and a gloss to make it beautifully shiny.
- The serum formula is enriched with AHA: This molecule, often better known for its skin care benefits, helps to strengthen the interior of the hair fibre
- The mirror-like texture of the gloss acts as a light reflector by smoothing the fibre while Ceramide fills in fissures to perfect the surface of the hair. Its second-skin texture is permissive, making easier all the hairstyles.

It’s kind of vague ingredient-wise, but when a product delivers the results I got from Kerastase Cristal Sculpt, it’s enough for me. It’s the high quality of the raw materials in this serum that set it apart from others I’ve tried. It’s such a perfectly diluted silicone that it never weighs the hair down, and just leaves it perfectly smooth and silky. I’ve been “test driving” Cristal Sculpt in hot summer temperatures around 40 degrees C, high humidity and in a convertible. At the end of the day, I barely need to brush my hair, and can just run my fingers through it for a soft style. In these photos (taken at the end of that hot, cabrio driving day) I used the Cristal Sculpt on wet hair, and then combed it through. I added a bit of ICON Protein Gel (perfect for soft waves, btw) and then used a small barrelled round brush to dry 5 pieces of hair on my crown. I let the rest air dry. I’m pretty happy with the results. It has a very soft sweet fruity scent that I actually love. It doesn’t last at all in the hair, so it won’t interfere with your perfume.

To keep hair bouncy and soft when you’re using a silicone product, using a shampoo that will remove build up and clarify the hair from the time to time is a must. I’m pretty sure most of the silicones in Cristal Sculpt are water soluble so that also adds to it’s luxe and light texutre. Cristal Sculpt add shin Verdict? Love. Can’t imagine not having this around, and my wallet is already hiding because I want the Bain Cristal shampoo for thick hair ($37) that goes with this line. Presently In My Daly Beauty Rotation

My beauty supplies. No small feat to take this show on the road.

Going on holiday and spending time on planes,  in the sun,  contrasted with cold, snow and super dry central heating takes a toll on skin. I grabbed a bottle of CeraVe PM lotion, as I had read rave reviews of it’s super moisturizing abilities while being non oily or pore clogging. At under $15 for a 3oz bottle at the drugstore I figured it was worth the risk. Well, this stuff is amazing – I have been using it in conjunction with my Skinceuticals serums at night.

What CeraVe says:

Helps repair, restore, and maintain protective skin barrier

CeraVe® Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM helps repair damaged skin and maintain the skin’s natural protective function with ingredients not commonly found in other moisturizers. Its patented Multivesicular Emulsion (MVE®) technology releases theses ingredients over time, penetrating deep into the skin to hydrate and nourish.

Ceramides – Helps reduce lipid levels in damaged skin to repair, restore, and maintain the skin’s natural barrier. Essential in preventing water loss from the skin
Niacinamide – Helps the skin produce more natural ceramides and fatty acids essential for repairing and restoring the skin barrier. Also shown to reduce redness.
Hyaluronic Acid – An essential ingredient (humectant) that attracts water to the top layer of the skin and ensures that the skin remains hydrated.

All true, and my skin is noticeably more supple and not tight at all, which is how it felt before using it. Verdict? Love. I have a feeling this is not available in Canada, which means I will stock up when I visit the US.

CeraVe PM lotion

L’Occitane Shea Butter line is amazing, as we all know. Full of natural and delicious smelling moisturizing goodness, I could slather myself head to toe in this stuff, and well, I often do. Right now my hair is dry, processed and suffering from serious hard water issues. I can barely get a comb through it. I forgot to bring my ICON India Shampoo & Conditioner on vacation and knew I needed serious silky conditioning action. I decided to just hop on over to my local L’Occitane shop at the mall and grab their Shea Butter Ultra Rich Shampoo and Ultra Rich Conditioner. How have I not reviewed these? I first read about the conditioner on The Non Blonde – and she has some big hair so I take her recos seriously. It’s almost weird how thin & runny the conditioner is when you realize how magical it is on dry hair. Try it. Words don’t do it justice. Not to mention, my hair smells so delicious now. Dry hair saved!

By Terry Baume de Rose. I did it. And I blame Jessica over at Getting Cheeky because she doth love it so. And she has divine taste so who am I to question that? I tried some at Space NK a few days ago and was hooked. So I happily do my own High/Low lip love and switch up my purse balms between By Terry Baume de Rose and Nivea Lip Butter. High and low because Baume de Rose is around $58, which puts it into La Mer territory.  What By Terry says:

This precious balm contains lipid-boosting and nourishing active ingredients to repair and protect lips and cuticles. Ultra-rich, it moisturises and soothes the driest and most delicate areas with its regenerating complex containing rose wax to soften and smooth, nourishing botanical oils to boost cell renewal, and hydrating shea butter. By Terry’s exclusive ‘Hydroskin’ complex heals and supplies strength, nutrition and comfort. UV filters protect against sun damage and vitamin E fights against skin ageing.

I love it already and feel like it gently plumps the lips while adding delicious moisture. You can buy By Terry at select retailers, best to check their site for shopping info.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray made it into the mix because a) I wanted a small bottle of dry shampoo for traveling and b) it smells really good. I use and adore the more reasonably priced Batiste but got the Oribe, $19 for the 2.2oz can, as a little treat to myself. One thing it does have that Batiste doesn’t is that it is practically colourless whereas the Batiste is a bit powdery and light. Maintaining being blonde means some powdery lightness on dirty roots just means I look like I’ve touched up my roots. Verdict? Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is perfect for travel, gym and beach bags. Oribe is sold at Holt Renfrew in Canada, Neimans and Space NK –  you can check their site for shopping info.
