These Coconut Oils Changed My Life. No, Really.

These Coconut Oils Changed My Life. No, Really.

I recently had the opportunity to try a line of coconut oils called Skinny & Company Coconut Oil, made from coconuts wild harvested in the jungles in Vietnam. Skinny & Co’s patent-pending Nutralock System™ crafts the ONLY raw & alkaline coconut oil on the market today. And the extraction uses no heat to extract, rather cooling the coconut to release the oil – zero heat. I was intrigued by that information, and curious to try the different formulations of coconut oils that they offer.

I’ve never really jumped on the coconut oil train successfully until recently. A friend gave me a recipe this summer for raw chocolate “turtles” that used coconut oil, and I started by using a fragrance-neutral coconut oil for those. While I would use it, I started rubbing excess coconut oil into my hands, and started getting obsessed with using it on my skin.

Then, the Skinny & Co products arrived. I was smitten the minute I opened each jar. I have to comment on the texture of all the oils. The oil, when in a semi solid form, is almost pearlescent and kind of magical. I’ve never seen such a pretty coconut oil, and I suspect this has to do with the raw property.

SKINny Facial Oil ($35 USD 4oz) This heavenly concotion has stolen my heart and will always have a place in my routine. Heaven, I tell you. This is what they say:

If you are looking for an essential product in your morning or evening beauty arsenal, this is it. Perfect for all skin types, the Skinny Facial Oil with natural anti-microbial properties from our 100% RAW & pure coconut oil paired with calming lavender and chamomile essential oils has everything you need to cleanse, moisturize, & protect your skin.

Ingredients: (4oz) – Skinny&Co. Coconut Oil, Proprietary Blend of Essential Oils, Lavender and Roman Chamomile Extract

The lavender and chamomile take this coconut oil to a place of luxury and relaxtion that is addictive. I take off my make up with it and a hot face cloth, then cleanser (oh yes the Double Cleanse, more on that in a future post). Then I use my toner, apply my serums, lotions and what have you. Then, I use the SKINny Facial Oil on my oily t-zone and jawline and it has changed my skin. It is loaded with antibacterial properties and appears to heal problem skin. The Facial Oil has reduced breakouts and left soft skin behind. My husband gets mild eczema and all it takes is a gentle application of some of the Facial Oil and it’s gone in almost overnight. It also has helped immensely with our little rescue cat’s skin issues. It heals his skin and makes his fur like silk, and it’s not horrific if he licks it off, which of course he does. His skin has healed and his fur has grown back in! This is a miracle in a jar.

Skinny & Co 100% Virgin Coconut Oil ($17 USD 8oz) Ok, I’m going to say it. I put that sh*t on and in everything. Seriously, I do. I use it on my hands any time of day, on my cuticles after a manicure, in my coffee (yum),and in my hair. I love to do a hair mask with it – apply it generously to my hair, concentrating on the ends. Put a hot towel on it for twenty minutes or so, then shampoo out. You may need an extra shampoo. Skinny & Co Coconut Oil is the perfect all purpose coconut oil. The flavour is subtle and creamy which is perfect for me, as I don’t love an overwhelming coconut flavour. LOVE!

And, drumroll please…. Skinny & Co Peppermint Oil Pulling Coconut Oil ($23 8oz). If you don’t know what oil pulling is you can read more in this link. All I can speak to is my experience, which has been exceptional and delightful. I use the Peppermint Oil several nights a week, before brushing, swishing it around wildly for as long as I can handle. What can I say – it feels incredible in your mouth, tastes amazing and makes my mouth fresh and happy. The transformative effects are almost a immediate, with fresh breath, reduced tooth sensitivity, and healthy gums. Nothing has made my mouth feel so fresh, and it stays fresh. I am sort of addicted to how wonderful it is. I relish the feel of the coconut oil melting in my mouth – it is so silky and velvety. I look forward to it and can’t imagine being without.

If you are even the least bit into coconut oil, do yourself a favour and try Skinny & Company Coconut Oil. Their store locator is here.

My Favourite Facial Skin Oils For Whatever Your Skin Needs Now

My Favourite Facial Skin Oils For Whatever Your Skin Needs Now

It seems every beauty line is selling facial oils. And for good reason! I love them, and I know a lot of people do as well. My first facial oil love, Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate, is still a favourite and is the perfect way to wake up rested and glowing. I’ve been incorporating oils into my skincare for awhile now. Skin treatment oils for acne like Osmia Organics Spot Treatment and Odacité Black Cumin Concentrate are holy grail items for me, that I cannot imagine being without.

Some facial oil rules: less is more. Seriously, you only need a drop or two AT THE MOST to get what your face needs. Apply to warm, freshly washed skin and you will feel your skin drink it up as the oils seal in moisture and get to work healing your skin. And test on a small patch of skin first. I have had some nightmare scenarios with reactions to oils that other people have loved and sworn were perfect. Not everyone’s skin will react the same way.

Here are some more awesome facial oils and why I love them!

from left: Body Shop Revitalizing Oil, pixi beauty Rose Oil Blend, Lipidol Overnight Face Oil, Jacynth Serum, Palmers Skin Therapy

from left: Body Shop Revitalizing Oil, pixi beauty Rose Oil Blend, Lipidol Overnight Face Oil, Le Serum de Jacynth, Palmers Skin Therapy

The Body Shop Revitalizing Oil ($44 CAD 30ml) is part of the new Body Shop Oils Of Life line. I’m in love with the whole line, and this oil is no exception. The key ingredients are black cumin, camellia and rosehip oils, which combine antibacterial, moisturizing and anti-ageing benefits into one lovely oil It is lightweight and absorbs beautifully when massaged into freshly cleansed skin. I like to use a few drops before my serums and lotion. This oil is terrific at moisturizing even oily skin, and can make dry patches disappear over night. I especially love it around my eye area and on my neck. It’s terrific for sensitive skin that needs moisture.

The pixi skintreats Rose Oil Blend is another favourite. I am seriously in love with the pixi line! The gentle rose fragrance of the pixi skintreats just adds to luxe experience of this gorgeous oil. Rosehip helps with ageing skin, and almond oil is a perfect moisturizing elixir! I’ve been adding it to stuff, like my eye cream, my moisturizer and even to tinted moisturizer, for an extra way to get glowing. This is another beauty that has not made me break out, and it simply moisturizes beautifully. This simple and gentle oil is suitable for all ages and skin types, but more so for dry skin!

Lipidol Overnight Face Oil is, as it says, a nighttime oil, and is brought to us by the creators of the amazing and divisive Bio Oil, which I loved for my body and is a favourite of Kim Kardashian. I say divisive, as Bio Oil, and Lipidol contain mineral oil. If you have issues with mineral oil, avoid. However, this facial oil has black pepper oil which does have antibacterial properties and I’ve not had breakout issues with Lipidol. As with the Kiehls, a nighttime oil is usually a bit richer than something you might wear during the day, and contains ingredients to help nourish and revitalize while you sleep. Lipidol Overnight Face Oil actually helps to supplement the skin’s natural oil layer that we strip away by cleansing, toning etc. At under $10 for 50ml, you cannot do better than this price-wise. (ps I’m using the entire Lipidol line right now and am quite impressed!) This is terrific for dry skin types.

Le Serum de Jacynthe is a Canadian brand from Quebec created by a gorgeous woman, Jacynthe, who has been making her own luxury natural skincare for years. They call this a serum but it does have an oil-like texture to me. It is not ideal for acne prone skin, which is why I only use it around my eyes, and on my neck and décolletage. Full of rosehip, rose, buckthorn, sandalwood and natural vitamin E, this lovely and luxurious product improves skin tone and softens lines. I use it right after cleansing, pressing it into the skin. It soaks in beautifully and I would recommend this for mature skin that needs nourishment. My little 15ml bottle is $47 CAD.

Palmers Skin Therapy Oil Face is definitely one of my favourite skincare products right now. It is full of gorgeous and luxurious natural oils like sesame, coconut, sweet almond, mcadamia nut, argan, grapeseed, rosehip and camelina that nourish, soften and plump the skin. But it also has Retinol to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve texture, as well as Vitamin C to brighten and improve skin tone. I have been using this every night and where I have seen the biggest difference is with the skin tone around my eyes – brighter! And with years old sun spots on my chest from my pre sunscreen days – they are almost gone. I am in love with this oil and so is my skin. At under $20 CAD, this terrific multi-tasking facial oil is appropriate for just about anyone.

The Best Balm For Soft Lips & Sweet Kisses: Nuxe Rêve de Miel

The Best Balm For Soft Lips & Sweet Kisses: Nuxe Rêve de Miel

Sometimes it’s the little things that make us happy. And this little pot of Nuxe goodness is one of my favourite happy little things. At $17 CAD, Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm (honey dream!) is one of the more luxurious lip balms at the drugstore, but considering it is from the divine Nuxe line, and imported from France, the price is fairly reasonable*

Nuxe Rêve de Miel dalybeauty

Nuxe Rêve de Miel has a very short list of ingredients, which is appealing to me. I’m not saying I eschew all long ingredient lists of stuff I don’t understand. I still have products in my beauty cabinet chock full of mystery stuff that I don’t fully understand, and I’m ok with that.

The gentle stuff in Rêve de Miel treats my lips softly and gently. I love it’s unusual and thick texture. Rêve de Miel is highly concentrated and it’s tempting to grab a blob and slather it on, as it feels thick. Don’t be fooled, and take your time. A tiny amount is all you need and if you slowly rub it in, you will feel it melt right into your lips, coating them in sweet honey goodness. One of the best things about Rêve de Miel is the satin-matte texture that is never sticky. It makes fast work of dry flaky lips and almost heals them overnight, or maybe two. It also makes a lovely base for any lip colour. I like to lightly outline with a lip liner, then blend it all over my lips with Rêve de Miel. Yummy!

Like Winnie The Pooh's honey pot!

Like Winnie The Pooh’s honey pot!

Ingredients: Contains at least 78% natural ingredients – honey, sunflower, rosa mosqueta (musk rose), almond oil, shea butter and grapefruit essence. Paraben-free.

*this is one of those products that is a better deal in Canada than the US. It sells for $19 USD, which is around $25 CAD with values at the time of this posting. At $17 CAD, it would cost an American $13 USD to buy here.

How To Wash Sensitive & Hormonal Skin aka I’m Using Coconut Oil For Everything

How To Wash Sensitive & Hormonal Skin aka I’m Using Coconut Oil For Everything

I’m eternally a servant to the whims of my hormones. And my skin often pays the price, with breakouts and sensitivity. Sometimes simple is best, and, like many before me, I’ve found that simplifying my skincare routine and reevaluating ingredients has led me down the path to natural and organic solutions. I’ve found not everything has to be that pure, but I’ve made some changes that have surprised me and made me and my skin happy.

Cleansing is a very important part of skincare. Over clean and scrub, and you run the risk of sensitive or delicate skin reacting. Even acne prone skin doesn’t like being scrubbed and stripped, as it may start to overproduce oil to compensate for said stripping. Under clean, and you run the risk of leaving residual makeup and the dirt of the day on your skin to sink into your pores and make them angry.

Cleansers for oily acne prone skin

One of my issues is with my love of waterproof mascara. Regular mascara melts off my face like wax and it’s not pretty so waterproof is my jam. Unless it’s a tubing mascara like my standby Clinique Lash Power which washes off easily with water, most waterproof mascaras require an oil-based remover. Too much mineral oil and you can end up with bleary vision at best and at worst, milia around your eyes (it’s happened to me UGH). Too little oil and remover and you may end up tugging and pulling so much that you could actually yank out some lashes – yikes!

Lately I have been using some heavenly coconut oil products from Skinny & Co (more reviews on those to come – omg the Peppermint Oil Pull!!!) but their simple and basic Skinny Coconut Oil is absolutely perfect for removing makeup. It makes waterproof mascara melt away in a flash, as well as any other makeup I might have on. I use a gentle cotton to remove the residue around my eyes, then wash as usual. If I have time and feel like treating my face, I use a clean wet and warm face cloth and gently remove all my makeup before cleansing. I love the little travel sized jars for obvious reasons! There is something satisfying about cleaning my face with something I can also eat. Seriously.

Yes, even after that, I cleanse again. Gently! Eminence Organics ProBiotic Cleanser is a favourite – it leaves my face feeling clean and is gentle on any acne I may have, and helps fight acne with good bacteria versus anti-bacterial agents like triclosan, which have a danger of killing off bad AND good bacteria, and even making bacteria resistant. All I know is my face feels clean, clear and not stripped. It’s from Eminence Organics, which means you know its certified organic, and comes from a reputable company with a strong track record of effective and luxurious products and treatments. I love to use this in the morning before starting my day and love the gentle way it cleanses my skin.

Another favourite is Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser. I’ve had this in my collection and kind of forgot about it until a few weeks ago, when I saw it in my cupboard. I started using in the evening after removing my eye makeup, and even when I wasn’t wearing makeup, and remembered why I loved it! It is gentle, and their patented Active Naturals Total Soy Complex helps with skin tone, which is perfect when one may have acne spots. Aveeno Radiant Cleanser has a soft clean fragrance that I find so soothing at bedtime – one of those products that make me think “Oh if this was a perfume I’d wear it”.

Then, the final and key step is my glycolic toner. My favourite right now is Pixi Glow Tonic (another review here)! Me and everyone else, it seems! Seriously, though, this stuff is the bomb. I love how fresh and clean my skin feels after using it. I love how my blocked pores and blackheads are almost obliterated, and how soft and smooth it makes my skin, preparing it for any skincare and beauty products I apply. Something I’ve noticed lately has made me very happy. I have suffered from milia on my jawline and neck for years. As my skin has been changing over the last few years, it has definitely gotten worse. Well, using Glow Tonic morning and night has been the first product I’ve used that has made me notice a visible reduction in that milia. Yay!

RMS Beauty & Putting Good Stuff On My Face

RMS Beauty & Putting Good Stuff On My Face

I love makeup – all makeup! Natural, not natural, fancy and expensive, simple and expensive, cheap and cheerful etc etc. As much as I may love all of the things, my skin does not always love all of the things. Certain silicones and oils can be a real issue for my skin, triggering acne and causing milia. As long as I avoid those things and exfoliate regularly, I can usually keep these problems at bay. However, even if I am completely judicious, my hormones get the best of me and boom. A zit.

I had started taking RMS Beauty for a test drive. RMS is an all natural and organic beauty line created by celebrity and fashion world makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. Her years in the business had shown her a side of most beauty products that she didn’t love, and she wanted to make a change. Read more about that here.

RMS Beauty "un" cover-up, living luminizer, buriti bronzer

top row from left: buriti bronzer & “un” cover-up, bottom row: living luminizer

Everything RMS makes sounds so lovely, and it was hard to decide what lovely item to try! After reading some reviews, I decided to try some of their “best sellers” which are best sellers for a reason, people. I got the “un” cover-up #22 ($36), buriti bronzer ($28) and living luminizer ($38). What did I do first? Cover that zit, of course! I started with the “un” cover-up. I knew that the products had coconut oil in the base and that they worked well when warmed on the fingers. This is where it got really great – over the next few days as I dotted the “un” cover-up here and there, something started to happen. My acne spots started to heal, and they were healing quickly. Not only that, the dark spots were disappearing much quicker than they usually would.

That is just one of the lovely things about RMS Beauty products. Here is what they say on their website:

RMS Beauty products are formulated with raw, food grade and organic ingredients in their natural state, allowing their living, healing attributes to penetrate and rejuvenate the skin. In their purest form, enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants and their healing properties remain fully intact, encouraging amazing potential for anti-aging effects. RMS Beauty has also taken extreme care in the use of minimal heat in the manufacturing process of this product in order to keep all nutrients and healing properties alive. All RMS Beauty products are free of harmful chemicals, synthetic preservatives, synthetic vitamins, and genetically altered ingredients (GMO) etc. RMS Beauty is full of healing nutrients – nutrients that work synergistically with the skin, and are in harmony with nature and our environment. Each ingredient in RMS Beauty is carefully chosen to create a dialogue with the skin. Your touch activates the life force of the product, and nutrients interact with skin to promote hydration, softness, and luminosity.

Doesn’t that all sound lovely? Even lovelier, given that it’s true, and that the company isn’t making outrageous claims. Let me address the coconut oil thing. I’ve heard some people bemoan this ingredient, as it is not conducive to long lasting makeup. Super long lasting makeup is either important to you, or not. If it is, well, natural makeup is likely not going to work for you. However I look at this issue the way I look at some of my favourite perfumes. And sunsets. And my daughter’s childhoods. Babies. Kittens. Often, the most beautiful things are fleeting, and as with my favourite light and airy perfumes, I have to carry some with me and reapply. Who’s kidding who – my purse has a ton of different beauty items at any given time so tossing my concealer in there is no big deal. I don’t mind reapplying something that is good for my skin.

dalybeauty RMS Beauty "un" cover-up, living luminizer, buriti bronzer

The living luminizer is probably one of my favourite products right now. Talk about just the right amount of glow! Not shiny, not greasy, but just perfect. I dab it where the light hits  for a perfect glowy look. I also have been using the living luminizer on my eye lids. Remember eye glosses? I also use the buriti bronzer – all over my face and on my eyes as well. I use it on my brow bones, applying with my fingers. I also use it with a stippling brush and give my face an all over glow.

top: indoor natural light
bottom: direct sun light

Just a little bit of shimmer, but the best part about the living luminizer is what I love about all the RMS products – the coconut oil! On my aging skin, the “un” cover-up, living luminizer and buriti bronzer make my skin dewy and moisturized. All I need is a little mascara, powder & blush, and I’m ready to go.

I like the idea of using “clean” beauty on my face. I’m not giving up all my beauty stuff just yet, but I have to admit that I’m reaching for my natural and organic options more and more these days. And my skin is loving me for it.

RMS Beauty products are available on their website, and you can find retailers close to you or online via the wheretofind page on their site.

Get Your Glow On While You Powder Your Nose: Vita Liberata

Get Your Glow On While You Powder Your Nose: Vita Liberata

Yes, that’s right. In the time it takes you to powder your face, you can have a lasting tan. Actually, just powder your face, and you’re done! I’m not sure how it took me this long to jump on the Vita Liberata* bandwagon but I’m sure glad I did. It’s been getting raves and winning over beauty editors everywhere!

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Bronzing Powder dalybeauty review

I love self tanning, as it’s a safe way to add a glow year round. A little “natural” glow means a little less make up, which I also love because I love to see actual skin vs a mask. And, I’m a bit lazy. Self tanning is even better when it’s super easy and looks gorgeous. Vita Liberata created what I think is a revolutionary way to self tan with a Self Tanning Bronzing Mineral Powder. From the website:

Trystal3™ Technology combines an instant pure mineral bronze colour with long lasting self tan results for a beautiful, natural – looking medium tan that lasts for days. The innovative formula is a world – first self tanning bronzer. Oil – free with micronised crystals for sheer, lightweight bronzing coverage and added DHA for a lasting tan result, this unique bronzing powder will leave you with soft, smooth, healthy looking skin.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Bronzing Powder dalybeauty review

Vita Liberata powder is very concentrated, so you need only the smallest amount. It’s a mineral powder, so it’s all about the buffing and swirling vs applying lots of product. It comes with a beautiful Kabuki brush for perfect application. I did not get that when I first applied it and had a real oompa loompa moment. When I took only the smallest amount on the brush and shook it off really well before applying it was perfection. I stopped and stared at myself and could not believe it. It doesn’t coat the skin as much as a powder foundation so your skin is still visible and doesn’t feel “made up” or cakey at all. It’s weightless and leaves behind a glow – that’s it. I forget what shade I have – it’s not on the bottom of the jar and I got rid of the box. There are two shades, light and medium, and I’m pretty sure I have the medium which is why I only need to use a tiny bit.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Bronzing Powder dalybeauty review

In natural daylight, indoors

It lasted a couple days, maximum, and thankfully never gets orange or oxidizes. It may have lasted longer if I had applied more, but I liked the shade I achieved. If you wash and exfoliate regularly it obviously won’t last as long, but that will make any self tanner including Vita Liberata apply evenly.

Verdict – LOVE! A new staple in my beauty stash of miracles.

Vita Liberata Self Tanning Bronzing Powder is $68 CAN

, including the Kabuki brush (valued at $68 on it’s own) and it’s worth every penny.

Menopause, Hormones & Our Changing Skin: Vichy NeoVadiol Compensating Complex

Menopause, Hormones & Our Changing Skin: Vichy NeoVadiol Compensating Complex

Vichy has been committed to to making our skin look it’s best for over eighty years. In 2001, Vichy introduced the NeoVadiol line, the first skincare line to address the effects of menopause on the skin. September was Menopause Awareness Month, and Vichy celebrated that month with the introduction of NeoVadiol Compensating Complex. Coming up on October 18th 2015, it will be National Menopause Day. Considering we live almost one third of our lives in menopause, I’m doing my part to keep the conversation going, with the help of Vichy and their advanced and amazing skincare science.

If you read Daly Beauty regularly, you’ll know I’ve been a giant Vichy fan forever. Vichy ProEven and ProEven Night are staples in my skincare regimen for keeping my skintone even. Vichy LiftActiv Serum 10 is my favourite all purpose serum, and the LiftActiv Serum 10 Eyes & Lashes is magical. So I’ve been keen to try their newest NeoVadiol line as, like it or not, my skin is changing. I’m proud to be a Vichy Ambassador!

Vichy Neovadial Compensating Complex dalybeauty

Vichy NeoVadiol Compensating Complex is the product of fourteen years of research and has an impressive thirteen patents. While it won’t make any of us into The Bionic Woman, NeoVadiol Compensating Complex is the first of it’s kind to compensate for the loss of hormone production by reproducing the effect of the youth hormone on the skin. The big one is DHEA, which peaks at around twenty five. By the time we are around seventy, we have around ten percent of what we had in our youth. DHEA levels effect our cell turnover, the synthesis of collagen, the lack of which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. So we aren’t talking about harsh exfoliation, we are talking about infusing the skin and rejuvenating it.

You can't hide your skin from the effects of menopause

You can’t hide your skin from the effects of menopause

I had the chance to speak with Anik Kerry-Denis, Vichy’s Scientific Relations Leader, and she is very excited about the science behind this line. When Vichy introduced the most recent NeoVadiol line at the World Congress of Dermatology at a symposium on menopause, it caused a sensation. Vichy’s research showed that DHEA positively acts on the epidermis, dermis and sebum production, which declines with age. The Vichy NeoVadiol formula counterbalances the three fundamental markersof menopause on skin. After just 28 days, women noticed a transformation. Skin feels denser and deeply hydrated with improved elasticity.

So lets talk about first impressions. As with all of my Vichy loves, the NeoVadiol feels beautiful going on my skin. Thanks also to decreasing levels of DHEA, my skin has been very sensitive that last few years, and I find I have to be careful when applying a new antiaging product. I use the serum on my face and cream on my neck during the day, and the cream all over at night. I’ll say right now that I have noticed a marked difference in the firmness of the skin on my neck already. This is one of the first places the loss of firmness starts to show so I’m fighting it now! I would say the key words with these products for me is radiance and freshness. Almost like faking a good night’s sleep and being super hydrated, except it isn’t faking! I look forward to sharing my experiences with Vichy NeoVadiol and how it is helping my changing skin, and how Vichy is changing the way we approach antiaging skincare.

It’s Easy To Defy Your Age With Lise Watier Sublimessence

A month of using Lise Watier Sublimessence twice a day has made positive changes in the condition of my skin. It feels smooth, has a gentle glow and feels fresh. I’ve been using less concealer and powdered foundation than usual. I love how my skin feels immediately after applying it. It imparts an instant dewy glow that makes me feel like I had the best night’s sleep ever.

The luxe and gentle Lise Watier Sublimessence makes anti-aging skincare easy

As we approach fifty, our skin changes. Our skin becomes rougher, less elastic, more transparent and generally more fragile. Skincare has to change, and this is where using antioxidants becomes even more crucial. Our skin is more vulnerable to the elements, and skincare alone isn’t all we should be aware of. So we stay out of the sun when possible, and use sunscreen when it isn’t, as discoloration and “age spots” are a sure way to look older when we don’t want to.

A good diet is important for a few reasons, as studies have shown that high blood sugar speeds up the formation of wrinkles. Your body metabolizes carbs and sugar by converting them to glucose. Once they’ve been converted, glucose sticks to wrinkle-fighting proteins like collagen and damages them – this is glycation. As New York–based dermatologist Cheryl Karcher, MD, puts it: “Number one, the glucose makes the cells abnormal; and number two, it creates free radicals. So you get a double whammy when it comes to aging.”

So, to recap, antioxidants on the inside and on the outside can help our skin. We know that green tea is a superstar multitasker that interferes with the glycation process, and Lise Watier Sublimessence’s Labrador Tea ups the ante with it’s highly concentrated antioxidants, and using it topically is a terrific way to protect our skin. Cleansing the skin is important as well, and I like to use a glycolic toner weekly to exfoliate dead skin cells. This helps prepare the surface of the skin, like a canvas, which helps any serums, lotions etc penetrate and perform better. I like to use fabric masks to help plump up the skin with moisture as well. All of these steps contribute to younger looking skin.

When your skin is in good shape, everything you put on it looks better

My verdict regarding Lise Watier Sublimessence is LOVE. It’s effective, feels wonderful and does what it promises. Thank you for sharing my Lise Wati

Slough Off The Dead Skin That Is Dulling Your Glow

Slough Off The Dead Skin That Is Dulling Your Glow

If you don’t have a glycolic toner in your skincare regime, now is the time to get one! The number one way to be sure you do not look radiant with baby smooth skin is to have dead skin building up on your face and in your pores. Ew. That’s right, EW. All skin types can benefit from sloughing off that dead skin through exfoliation. Eliminating our built-up skin cells helps clear clogged pores, reduce breakouts, reduce and smooth wrinkles, and keep dry skin at bay.

There are many ways to exfoliate your skin, with two common methods – physical and chemical. Physical involves actually scrubbing the skin, either with a cloth or something gritty. Rough things like nut shells, sugar and salt have jagged sharp edges and can damage you skin vs just exfoliate. They also only attack the top most layer of skin, and most problematic skin build up and issues are below that. If you must exfoliate physically, use a wash cloth when you cleanse.

glycolic acid toners dalybeauty

I keep my exfoliation gentle, and chemical exfoliation is my usual go-to. This involves a liquid toner formulation, and I saturate a clean cotton pad My oily acne prone skin functions better when the pores are clear. My humungous arsenal of skincare goodies work best on a smooth clean canvas. Getting rid of nasty dry dead skin allows moisture to penetrate and let skincare ingredients get at your skin. I like glycolic acids, and if my skin is feeling sensitive, lactic acid is slightly milder. They are both alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) with glycolic acid coming from sugar cane, and lactic acid coming from sour milk. Cleopatra knew what she was doing in those milk baths.

There are three exfoliants that I am loving right now. I rotate them depending on time of day and how my skin feels.

Pixi Glow Tonic dalybeauty review

I’ve been hearing raves about the infamous Pixi Glow Tonic and it’s magical glycolic formula for years, and finally got my hot little hands on a bottle of this miracle liquid. I noticed a difference within a week of using it, and my skin is clearer, smoother, less oily yet also less dry. I love using it in the morning after a gentle cleansing, then I let my skin dry completely before applying my serums, lotions and potions. I cannot imagine ever being without this beauty. It has fully lived up to it’s stellar reputation. At around $30 USD for 250ml, it’s a truly excellent value. This product has always been sold online, never sold in-store at Target. Pixi always has amazing shipping deals, and the UK ships to Canada. Their newest Skin Treats are available to Canadians before it hits the US so get on it!

Eminence Organics Firm Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel

Another favourite is from the luxe organice skincare brand Éminence. Their Firm Skin Acai Exfoliating Peel  which is aimed at aging skin directly. It is full of antioxidants as well as glycolic and the more gentle lactic acid. It not only smooths, but the antioxidants help firm aging skin, even out skin tone, and regular use leaves you with glowing, younger-looking skin. This is one I use at bedtime, after cleansing and before applying my products. It’s gentle yet effective, as well as being full of organic skincare goodness. Remember that Éminence is a luxury organic line – this is not your health food store crunchy granola organic. This is pure luxury, and even better, it works. At around $75 for 50ml it isn’t cheap, but quality organic ingredients aren’t either. The packaging is astounding and airtight as well, so the formula remains stable. You can Éminence Organics at spas and online.

Bliss that's incredi-'peel' dalybeauty

I have also become a big fan of Bliss Skincare lately, and that’s incredi-‘peel’ glycolic resurfacing pads are one of the reasons why. Wowza do I love these. They are super convenient, with each treatment individually packaged in handy dandy foil envelopes, so they are perfect for travel. Seriously, what better way to wake up after a day of traveling with a glowing complexion? It’s like a secret weapon. They are designed for use at night, as they have a time released formula that gradually releases glycolic all night for a gentle exfoliation. There is also soothing witch hazel and glycerin to keep skin calm. I love that’s incredi-‘peel’ and will always have some in my bag! Perfect for an overnight facial, no matter where you are! At around $59 for 30 pads, it’s not cheap or exorbitant. I get my Bliss on at Sephora.

New Obsession: The Body Shop Oils Of Life™ & Spa Of The World™ Lines

New Obsession: The Body Shop Oils Of Life™ & Spa Of The World™ Lines

The Body Shop has launched some gorgeous new lines, two of which are my new obsession and love. The first one is the Oils Of Life™  which is based on the infusion 3 precious seed oils from around the world, known for their revitalising and repairing properties on skin – Black Cumin seed oil from Egypt, Camellia seed oil from China and Rosehip seed oil from Chile. The other newness is the Spa of World™ with incredible skin conditioning and pampering products full of ingredients known for their rarity and precious effects on the skin. Passed down from generation to generation, these natural ingredients and ancient beauty rituals have been perfected through centuries of wisdom. Camellia oil, Monoi, lemongrass, Himalayan & Moroccan clays, Dead Sea salt scrubs, orchid oil and milk and honey. I am addicted to all of them and they have taken my bathing and pampering to a whole other level.

Body Shop Spa of The World Oils Of Life dalybeauty review

These oils are my favourites, especially the Oils of Life™ Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion. It’s like an oil/essence hybrid, meaning it is completely non-greasy and absorbbs into the skin instantly. And the fragrance is divine. I have been using it as a splash on my neck, décolletage and my arms. It softens skin beautifully, and leaves a lingering scent of loveliness. I have been using it with the amazing Oils Of Life™ Intensely Revitalising Cream melts onto the face, leaving a light and comfortable finish without a greasy feel.  The scent of this line is my favourite thing.

The Spa of The World™ Moroccan Rhassoul Body Clay Mask is seriously the bomb dot com. I have used it twice before a shower and adore it. Since using this line I swear by skin is softer and more plumped and glowy looking. The way you look when you have spa treatments! Except by doing it in my bathroom, all by myself. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars at the spa to look and feel incredible.

The Spa Of The World™ Polynesian Monoi Radiance Oil is my new favourite body oil. With a soft lovely monoi fragrances, my skin soaks it up and simply glows. The scrubs. Ahhh, the scrubs. I cannot get enough of these scrubs! The Spa of The World™ Dead Sea and African Ximenia scrubs are heaven sent! The Dead Sea scrub is salty and coarse as it sloughs away dead skin cells. The African Ximenia scrub is gently exfoliating and full of skin softening oils. Honestly my skin has never been softer.

And the body butters? Or, I should say “buttahs”, because they are buttah. The Spa of The World™ Hawaiian Kukui Cream is deeply moisturizing, and the Japanese Camelia Cream softens skin. I can’t choose just one so I use them both.

Get thee to ye olde mall and to a Body Shop stat. You must check out this line.

The Body Shop Spa of The World™ and Oils of Life™ lines are sold online and at Body Shop stores, for between $20 and $44 CAD.
