Makeup things that bug me include thick clumpy mascara. Most mascara bothers me, to be honest. I’m not sure if it’s because my eyes are sensitive or that I like to be able to rub my eyes, blink or shed a tear without looking like a racoon. Racoons are cute, but racoon eyes on grown women not so much. I love tubing mascaras and traditionally they have been my go-to formula for natural looking glossy lashes with no clumps.

Clumpy thick lashes are a pet peeve of mine. Seriously, who thinks that’s a good look? Layer upon layer of thick mascara to attain weird volume and length – ew. My perfect mascara does the following:

• makes my lashes dark
• adds subtle length without clumps
• is glossy and dark
• does not come off when rubbed
• does not come off with tears, rain, humidity or because of my oily skin

Beautycounter Lengthening Mascara ($36 C) is AMAZING. Period. It is basically a black tint for lashes that adds glossy colour and subtle length that lasts until you take it off. You need an oil based remover for this one.

Estee Lauder Little Black Primer ($27 C) is probably my favourite “your lashes but better” mascara. It looks so natural you may forget you have it on, and I compare it to the look I get when I tint my lashes with a little extra length. It’s meant as a primer to wear under of over mascara, but two step mascara is never something I have had time for. Read my review here.

Blinc Mascara Amplified ($30 C) is a tubing mascara like the original Blinc, except it allows for a softer more fluttery look. I found the original Blinc could be a bit stiff on the lashes, and you could pass it over your lashes once. Anymore would make it clumpy. Blinc Mascara Amplified goes on lighter and you can certainly add a little more for a bit more length. It is never clumpy and makes long lasting pretty lashes. Tubing mascara is removed by getting them wet while washing your face, then gently rolling the little tubes off, leaving little spider legs in the sink. You’re welcome.

Clinique Lash Power Feathering ($24 C) is very much like the original lash power but like the reformulated Blinc, it allows for a little layering. Lash Power Feathering goes on easily and lightly, never looking clumpy. It is also a tubing mascara so removal is gently dampening and rolling them off.

Removal of all these mascaras, including the tubing ones, is made easier with an oil or cream cleanser. I love Skinny & Co Coconut Facial Oil (my review here) and Bella Aura Cleanser (my review here).  You do not need a cleanser to remove the tubing ones, I just find it easier and gentler on my lashes.
