I love scent, on my skin and in my home. I love a good scented candle and room spray. But, by good, I mean really good. Not crappy and smelling like plastic berries. I swear I can smell a bad Glade Plug-In from your front porch – stop using them! You might as well melt plastic in your toaster.

I have many favourites as far as candles go – there are the luxury beauties like Diptyque and L’Artisan Parfumeur, and the new classics in the Nest family of scents, and yes, even a few Bath & Body Works candles. Seriously folks, their Fireside candle (usually a holiday limited edition) is a $20 dupe for the $80 Diptyque Feu de Bois. I love soft pretty room sprays – Geodesis Black Tea, Crabtree & Evelyn Rose and Fruits & Passion Coriander & Olive Tree. It doesn’t have to be a certain kind of scent – it just has to smell good.  Also, candles and room sprays make lovely hostess gifts. A switch from the standard bottle of wine, and if they don’t like the scent, they can regift! Everyone wins.

Lately I am really loving my Belle Fleur NY Grapefruit Muguet home fragrance spray. It is fresh and floral with an bubbly sweetness I adore. There is definitely a bit of a tea note to it, more of a fresh green tea vs a black tea, and it gently freshens and scents the space. I like to gently mist linens and area rugs, and my tricks – a soft spritz on my light bulbs in the morning, when they are OFF (this is important unless you like exploding light bulbs) and a spritz or two on air vents. At the end of the day the scent is rejuvenated when I turn the lights on. Boom. Belle Fleur Grapefruit Muguet is light, soft and perfect for lovers of fruity florals. I’ve got my eye on the Belle Fleur Mayan Tuberose – their description is “seductive and carnal”, which sounds like a perfect rooms spray for the boudoir….

Rive Sud candles really elevate the candle experience. The candles themselves appear to be housed in Murano glass and are just gorgeous. The scent is very soft and perfect for those of you that do not want to be overwhelmed by your candle scent experience. I have Rive Sud Acqua di Latte, which is a soft blend of star anise, angelica and white musk. It burns cleanly and offers a gentle scent that is perfect for smaller rooms. I love it.
