RMS Beauty & Putting Good Stuff On My Face

I love makeup – all makeup! Natural, not natural, fancy and expensive, simple and expensive, cheap and cheerful etc etc. As much as I may love all of the things, my skin does not always love all of the things. Certain silicones and oils can be a real issue for my skin, triggering acne and causing milia. As long as I avoid those things and exfoliate regularly, I can usually keep these problems at bay. However, even if I am completely judicious, my hormones get the best of me and boom. A zit.

I had started taking RMS Beauty for a test drive and was already loving how gentle it was on my skin. RMS is an all natural and organic beauty line created by celebrity and fashion world makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift. Her years in the business had shown her a side of most beauty products that she didn’t love, and she wanted to make a change. Read more about that here.

Everything RMS makes sounds so lovely, and it was hard to decide what lovely item to try! After reading some reviews, I decided to try some of their “best sellers” which are best sellers for a reason, people. I got the “un” cover-up #22 ($36), buriti bronzer ($28) and living luminizer ($38). What did I do first? Cover that zit, of course! I started with the “un” cover-up. I knew that the products had coconut oil in the base and that they worked well when warmed on the fingers. This is where it got really great – over the next few days as I dotted the “un” cover-up here and there, something started to happen. My acne spots started to heal, and they were healing quickly. Not only that, the dark spots were disappearing much quicker than they usually would.

I also suffer from stress induced eczema and psoriasis. On my face this is usually on my eyelids, which makes applying eye makeup almost impossible. I get the best results treating my skin issues with coconut oil, specifically my miracle in a jar, Skinny & Co Facial Coconut Oil. So I decided to try using the un-cover up on my lids in lieu of primer or concealer. And guess what. Not only does it cover without looking cakey or thick or settling into lines, but it helps heal my skin. A makeup item, that helps heal my skin. Come on!

Here is what they say on their website:

RMS Beauty products are formulated with raw, food grade and organic ingredients in their natural state, allowing their living, healing attributes to penetrate and rejuvenate the skin. In their purest form, enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants and their healing properties remain fully intact, encouraging amazing potential for anti-aging effects. RMS Beauty has also taken extreme care in the use of minimal heat in the manufacturing process of this product in order to keep all nutrients and healing properties alive. All RMS Beauty products are free of harmful chemicals, synthetic preservatives, synthetic vitamins, and genetically altered ingredients (GMO) etc. RMS Beauty is full of healing nutrients – nutrients that work synergistically with the skin, and are in harmony with nature and our environment. Each ingredient in RMS Beauty is carefully chosen to create a dialogue with the skin. Your touch activates the life force of the product, and nutrients interact with skin to promote hydration, softness, and luminosity.

Doesn’t that all sound lovely? Even lovelier, given that it’s true, and that the company isn’t making outrageous claims. Let me address the coconut oil thing. I’ve heard some people bemoan this ingredient, as it is not conducive to long lasting makeup. Super long lasting makeup is either important to you, or not. If it is, well, natural makeup is likely not going to work for you. However I look at this issue the way I look at some of my favourite perfumes. And sunsets. And my daughter’s childhoods. Babies. Kittens. Often, the most beautiful things are fleeting, and as with my favourite light and airy perfumes, I have to carry some with me and reapply. Who’s kidding who – my purse has a ton of different beauty items at any given time so tossing my concealer in there is no big deal. I don’t mind reapplying something that is good for my skin.

The living luminizer is probably one of my favourite products right now. Talk about just the right amount of glow! Not shiny, not greasy, but just perfect. I dab it where the light hits  for a perfect glowy look. I also have been using the living luminizer on my eye lids. Remember eye glosses? I also use the buriti bronzer – all over my face and on my eyes as well. I use it on my brow bones, applying with my fingers. I also use it with a stippling brush and give my face an all over glow.

Just a little bit of shimmer, but the best part about the living luminizer is what I love about all the RMS products – the coconut oil! On my aging skin, the “un” cover-up, living luminizer and buriti bronzer make my skin dewy and moisturized. All I need is a little mascara, powder & blush, and I’m ready to go.

I like the idea of using “clean” beauty on my face. I’m not giving up all my beauty stuff just yet, but I have to admit that I’m reaching for my natural and organic options more and more these days. And my skin is loving me for it.
