Fall comes to my back yard…

Music: Fall always feels a bit sad to me. The end of summer, winter around the corner, shorter days….Yet, there a sweetness to that sadness. The way the sky is lit only in fall, the heavy sky, and the scents in the air. That earthy loamy scent of damp earth and leaves, the unmistakable scent of woodsmoke in the air, and of course the delicious cooking smells of roasts, soups and stews. So yes, sad, but also sweet. I’m enjoying it while I can….

Reading/Watching: Just finished the magical and beautifully touching Touch by Alexi Zentner. It’s a story of a family history, three generations of a pioneering family in the Canadian wilderness, and full of magic. Touch introduces you to a world of monsters and witches, singing dogs and golden caribou. Are the stories we hear from our grandparents true? Is there really magic? I like to think so. At once dreamy and riveting, Touch is also a finalist for the prestigious Governor General’s Literary Award for fiction.

Food: I always dread the end of summer. Change of seasons from warm to cold? No thanks. Yes, I know fall is gorgeous blah blah blah. But it’s also the season of seasonal colds and general Run-Down-Ness. Days get shorter, and the school routine means up and at ’em at an early hour. I’ve been a believer of the curative and preventative magic of Emergen-C ever since my girlfriend let me in on her sure-fire hangover secret. I find it helps me stave off illness, dehydration and general malaise. But there is an even better side effect to having Emergen-C from time to time. Hydrated glowing skin. Yes, that’s right. I see a marked difference in the elasticity and appearance of my skin when I stay hydrated, but if I’ve had too much coffee, too little water or whatever, Emergen-C in water puts the apples back in my cheeks.

Fashion: A big cozy sweater! It’s been chilly and being warm, comfy AND stylish is very important! I love my burgundy wool TNA cardigan from Aritzia. So much, actually, that I may have to go back for the dark grey one….

Skincare: Serums!!! If you’d asked me a year ago if I would replace almost all my face creams and lotions for serums, I would have said no way. I never knew serums could work such magic on my skin until I tried Skinceuticals. Their Blemish & Age Defence Serum is truly the stuff of miracles for that hateful dichotomy of aging skin that is plagued by pimples. Boo! Thankfully, Skinceuticals Blemish & Age (also a Fall Favourite)  has saved me!

Make Up: I am loving my new Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipcolour. Review to come…this stuff is awesome! On it’s own, it adds seamless colour, almost like a stain, that doesn’t scream LOOK AT MY LIPSTICK. And it also looks pretty and kissable with some yummy Bobbi Brown lipgloss layered on top. Stay tuned for review!

Perfume: I’m just loving The 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom these days. It’s always perfect, never too much, and smells sexy, feminine and clean at the same time. It is a calming and soothing scent as well- so easy to wear. I love orange blossom perfumes in the fall. Last year it was By Kilian Sweet Redemption, and this year The 7 Virtues. I just seem to reach for it more than anything else…for now.

What are you loving this fall?

I love this post, Jane. I couldn’t agree more about the bittersweet feeling fall brings: it’s the most beautiful kind of sadness one could feel at the very least 🙂
