MY INVISIBLE TATTOO, MY FRAGRANCE, MON GUERLAIN: Review

Guerlain just released a new perfume, with the ethereal Angelina Jolie as the face/muse.  Her love for Guerlain started young, with her mother using Guerlain’s iconic powder, which has a distinct scent of violets and a hint of the divine Guerlinade, that beautifully joins floral notes with a whisper of animal and vanilla. I have the same childhood memory of that powder – I adore it! I love Angelina Jolie, she has a beautiful feminine combination of strength and fragility.  The official video, directed by the genius Terrance Malick, is magical and moving.

It’s as unique a take on lavender for Guerlain as BOY was to CHANEL. It stands out from their usual offerings. Its a gourmand scent, with mouth watering vanilla playing off the intensely soapy lavender, the sweet jasmine is almost candy-like, while the sandalwood grounds with a subtle sexy vibe. The soapy lavender is so intense that it balances the sweetness of the gourmand notes. And the sandalwood adds a contemplative and calming woodsy balance.

Carla Lavender, an exceptional variety grown in Provence, contrasts with the sensual and enveloping Vanilla Tahitensis by infusing it with audacity and freshness. Sambac Jasmine, gathered at sunrise, gives the Mon Guerlain fragrance all its finesse. Album Sandalwood gives strength to Guerlain’s new fragrance and preserves its mystery.

It goes back and forth from soapy and powdery to sultry and delicious. It’s sweet notes have the Guerlain touch of perfection, making Mon Guerlain demure and enticing. I always think of the Russian royal family when I wear Mon Guerlain. There is something regal in it’s subtle nature. I like to call it Understated Baroque.

Some complain it doesn’t last long enough on skin. For me this always a blessing. My experience is that it has pretty great longevity. The soft yummy sweet and sexy dry down becomes a skin scent as it dries down.

The bottle a redux version of the famous Guerlain Baccarat quadrilobe bottle, well known for Jicky. I love it. It feels perfect in the hand, and proportions make holding and spritzing effortless. It has a heft to it that really does feel historical.

Your fragrance Mon Guerlain in its “quadrilobe” bottle : created in 1908, the bottle established itself as one of Guerlain’s iconic bottles. Simple and graphic, it echoes an alchemist’s bottle and owes its name to its stopper, which is crafted from one piece to obtain a shape resembling four lobes. A century later, beautifully enhanced by a luxurious glass weight and a golden adornment, this bottle offers a contrast between strong taut lines and sensual curves, expressing contemporary femininity.

Guerlain Mon Guerlain is sold at Guerlain counters and boutiques in Canada as well as their site. Bottle prices range from $78 CAD for a 30 ml to $168 CAD for a 100ml.
