I realize I’m a little late to the party on this but better late than never, especially in the case of Sol de Janeiro. They may be my favourite new beauty brand and they certainly make the best smelling body cream I’ve ever used. The Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream has reached iconic status for good reason. First of all, it smells like summer and happiness. Make that summer, the beach and happiness. When I opened the jar I could hear the opening bars of The Girl From Ipanema start to play in my mind and felt the warmth of sun on my skin, even as the snow was falling outside.
Ok so there is definitely more to the fragrance than summer nights on the beach and happiness, but it is amazing how the fragrance summons up those memories and feelings. I’m not alone in my experience either – the products and scent are hugely popular for good reason. I mean, who doesn’t want to be happy?
The Bum Bum Cream itself is lush and nourishing. Skin is treated with antioxidants like guaraná and açai oil, in a rich buttery base of coconut oil, and cupuaçu butter – which is “the Amazon’s answer to Shea butter ” that smells amazing. It is all combined in a magic formula that smooths and tightens the skin. I am applying it religiously and am loving how soft, smooth and moisturized my skin is. I’ll check back with you on how much it helps my butt sometime in the future.
The fragrance is what takes Bum Bum Cream from an exceptional skincare product to a luscious and delicious overall treat for the senses. Sol de Janeiro calls the scent Cheirosa ’62. 1962 is, of course the year Stan Getz & Antônio Carlos Jobim recorded the famous song The Girl From Ipanema. It is truly the perfect song to accompany this delicious scent. The fragrance includes notes of pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla but, as I mentioned above, it really just smells like happiness.
