Oh my heavens. This collection. Chanel’s new global creative makeup and colour designer Lucia Pica decided to make her debut in a great way, using Coco Chanel’s favourite colour, red, and launching an entire seasonal makeup collection in various fantastic shades of red. My first thought was – red eye shadow? No way! Of course, I was wrong. Every shade of this collection is delicious and divine, and even though summer is my favourite season, I find myself wishing for all the wonderful aspects of fall. Cozy fall sweaters, new jeans, some leather boots… perfect for walking through the colours of the changing trees while inhaling the sweet aroma of maple leaves on the earth, still warm from the August sun. I love the transitional time of the seasons and these shades are perfect for that summer-fall time, but will also be perfect right into the holidays. LOVE!
THIS QUAD, THO, amirite? Holy canoli I swooned when I first opened this baby. CHANEL Les 4 Ombres in 268 Candeur et Expérience is gorgeous and elegant and exactly what I’d expect from a CHANEL eye shadow palette from a collection called “Le Rouge No1”. First of all, they are all fairly matte. There is a touch of shimmer but it’s barely noticeable on the skin and is just enough to keep the shades from looking chalky. The CHANEL hidden shimmer adds dimension to everything they make, from eye shadow to nail polish. I applied them clockwise from top left. The top left shade is supposed to be used all over the lid, but was too dark on me for that, or at least would be far too dramatic a look for me. I frankly was terrified of the red shadow but I kept the faith while staring at the stunning images of Kristen Stewart in the Le Rouge No1 campaign photos.
And the lipstick! The perfect nude! The CHANEL Le Rouge No1 Rouge Allure 168 Rouge Ingenue is amazing. Firstly, it has the lovely silky texture of Rouge Allure, but the nude red-rose shade is not too pale or chalky and works perfectly with a strong eye.
CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Velvet 132 Rouge Contraste – red (Limited Edition – get it while you can!) This gorgeous amber-gold velvety airy unicorn shadow is beyond. A must have if you love these shades. Makes hazel and green eyes pop, would like do the same for blue. And brown. Honestly, it’s that beautiful. The silky cream- to-powder and gel cream formulas are so light they’re almost magical.
The coppery tone of the CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof 929 Agapé is divine. This is the shade of liner I love as it works perfectly with my hazel eyes. Not too dark and not too red, just a deep brownish red that glows. Limited edition as well….
Of course it would hardly be a CHANEL collection without new polishes! The red cream, new formula CHANEL Le Vernis 528 Rouge Puissant is a gorgeous true red. Dupeable? Maybe. But the new CHANEL long wear formula of their latest line is unbeatable in my opinion. It wears beautifully. And how about the hottest of hot Le Vernis Nail Gloss 530 Rouge radical – the sheer red jelly? WOW. I applied it, expecting a light red tinted clear polish. It’s actually surprisingly rich and one coat looks amazing. I’m not sure if even three coats would make it opaque, but that’s not the point. It also is supposed to look great layered on tope of Rouge Puissant but I have not tried that yet.
CHANEL Le Rouge No1 collection will be available at CHANEL boutiques, counters and on CHANEL.com August 6 2016
