Mother’s Day means spring to me. Sunshine, trees bursting into leaf, flowers popping up out of cold soil, grass getting greener and fresh lovely smells in the air. This year, we had record rainfalls where I live, lots of flooding, and days of grey cloudy cold days. I’m craving the soft sweet scents of spring, like lilacs, wild violets and lavender. And while it is indeed May, its still quite cool, especially in the evening. So being warm and cozy is necessary.

My city is usually awash in lilacs in spring, but I’ve missed them this year. I love purple flowers, like the sweet bluebells and wild violets in my back yard. When I was a teenager, I was obsessed with purple. I painted my room in seven shades of purple, from pale lavender to eggplant. It was AMAZING. So, for Mother’s Day this year I am channelling all things purple. Enjoy my purple gift list!

I love cozy sweats. Like, REALLY LOVE them. One of my favourite times of day is that time when actual pants give way to cozy pants. I’ve seen Lazypants all over social media and have wanted a pair to add to my Cozy Wardrobe. I love that they are a Canadian company, and I love their understated simple and clean vibe.

Honestly, what is a better gift than the gift of comfy and cozy personified in pants? I love getting clothing for gifts because I’m not the biggest fan of shopping. I love the cozy fit of Lazypants Niki Originals.

They are a classic sweatpant style, with no bulky pockets, and can be worn lower on the hips or on the waist. They are incredibly soft! Lazypants (buy here) are known for how soft and cuddly their fabric is and I can attest to feeling like I’m wrapped in clouds. The Orchid shade I got is flattering and pretty and work with the simple clean style of the pants. Love the bird logo, too. Get these for the humans in your life who deserve a little cozy comfort.

So, what purple nail polish to choose? Funny, when I opened the Lazypants and saw the glorious orchid shade,  I knew I had a few shades of polish that would be close. And Essie Go Ginza is the same shade, just a pinch lighter. Go Ginza is described as a pale orchid shade, so voila! Isn’t it pretty?

You can’t lose with nail polish for mum. Toss a bottle into a bouquet of purple flowers for extra love 🙂

Purple perfumes for mom? That’s easy. Of course, the purplest of purple is the magical intergalactic jasmine of Thierry Mugler Alien. Alien Eau de Parfum is a show stopper! I’ve asked women who have smelled so good what they were wearing. It’s been Alien on many occasions! If your mom, or anyone you know, loves sexy jasmines and outer space styling, Mugler Alien is the one for them.

If the mom or human you love is into soft and ethereal fragrances, and especially if they love spring, then Annick Goutal La Violette is perfect. I read a review somewhere once that described La Violette as violets and Perrier Water, and that is pretty accurate in my opinion. Its bright and sparkling as well as soft and sweet. It’s not a super sweet candied violet, but spring air and green breezes in a bottle, definitely one of my all time favourite violet perfumes. Get this for forrest dwelling people who perhaps believe in the existence of the faery folk.

The other scent I associate with purple is, of course, lavender. Its wonderful fragrance with aromatherapeutic properties that enhance relaxation and help one fall asleep. It has a wonderful soapy quality that makes me feel calm and centred. If you like lavender and haven’t heard of Bleu Lavande, you’re in for a treat! This line is Canadian and they have one of the biggest lavender farms in Canada. They grow their own lavender for their products in the Eastern Townships, and they are one hundred percent free of chemical pesticides and herbicides. All that, and their lavender products smell divine. I adore the Bleu Lavande Dry Oil, and this would be perfect for someone who wants to soothe and nourish their skin and their soul.

Ok I found this next Bleu Lavande product amazing. It’s Lavender Fabric Softener Concentrate. Not weird plastic lavender mixed with a saccharine vanilla, but an actual lavender product fragranced with actual lavender. It’s perfect for everything I wash, but holy moly is it amazing on sheets and bedding! Fall asleep with the gentle fragrance of real lavender enveloping you. It’s never too strong, and because it’s concentrated you only need a tiny bit, especially if you have a front loading washer. Bleu Lavande Lavender fabric softener is the perfect treatment for the clothes you love to relax in….like your orchid Lazypants!
