I adore roses, and the fragrance of roses is something I cannot get enough of. Roses are good for our skin, and using rosewater is something I’ve become obsessed with. You can read about my search for the perfect rosewater here and here. I recently revisited my love of the classic Rosewater line from Crabtree and Evelyn. It has been reformulated, but I found the originals in a local shop and bought a bunch of the lotions and hand soaps.
When I change for bed, I spray myself head to toe with rosewater. Yes – head to toe. My favourite rosewater is quite inexpensive and I get it at the healthfood store – Thayers Rose Petal. My only gripe with this one is the bottle does not have a sprayer! I have a sprayer from another rosewater that I switch out when I get a new bottle. It smells good, feels wonderful, and is simply lovely. The fragrance of Thayers Rose Petal is a perfect balance of green and sweetness. I usually spritz a little in my hair for good measure as well – for a light refresher a bit of rosewater is perfect head to toe!
I let the rosewater dry on my skin, then I apply my Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater body lotion. The Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater lotion is not a heavy one at all, rather light and water based, with rosewater and touch of almond oil for moisture, and no mineral oil, parabens, phthalates or propylene glycol. I shall have to relent and try the newer version soon, as I am almost through my stash. The only difference would probably be in the scent, and hopefully the reformulated version is as clean and simple as the original. Let me know if you have tried both and what you think.
There you are! I literally smell like a bouquet of roses, and my skin feels incredibly soft, beautifully supple and gently moisturized. The fragrance of rose is recognized in aromatherapy for its soothing, relaxing and balancing properties, which makes it a perfect bedtime ritual. Taking time to treat yourself to a simple ritual of self love will pay off – calm and peace will enfold you as you drift off into a sleep of sweet dreams.
