I recently had the opportunity to try the nail polish line from Lauren B Beauty, the California beauty line created by Lauren B (niece of hair guru to the stars, Philip B). A lifelong lover of fashion and beautiful things, especially colour, Lauren decided to pursue a life in the beauty business.
“Philip encouraged her to follow her dream. “She’s another me – as passionate about nails as I am about hair!” he says. This along with the support from her entrepreneurial minded father Paul and wisdom from her mother Cheryl, along with close family and loved ones who all inspired Lauren to make her dream a reality. Lauren then carted her demanding wish list to the world’s top chemists and set about creating the perfect brand. The result, she says, is “the perfect, two-week, do-it-yourself manicure for busy women. The polishes swipe on expertly, easily. They dry fast, stay delightfully glossy and chip-free for at least 14 days, and don’t cost a fortune. Every color is one that I’d wear; every treatment is one that I swear by. I even created a perfect nude for every skin tone – though actually, I wear them all.” They’re all a joy to use, even on the go and they are all inspired by the beauty of L.A. the place Lauren now calls her home turf. Our products are proudly made in the U.S.A. and never tested on animals. Everything we create is vegan-friendly and free of harsh chemicals like formaldehyde, DBP, toluene, formaldehyde resin and camphor.”
Lauren B’s botanical nail care is gorgeous, luxurious and effective. The Cuticle Oil ($20 usd) has been a favourite since the I first used it. It smells beautiful (key for me!) and makes my cuticles and nails happy. A combination of 12 nut and plant oils, I apply this before my manicure and at night when I’m chilling out. I wish I had a giant bottle because I’d love to use it head to toe. Lauren B Nail Polish Remover Pads ($15 usd) are something else altogether, and kind of blew my mind when I first used them. They’re acetone-free, infused with floral essences, they leave your skin silky and moisturized.
I was able to try one of the shades from the Fall 2015 collection, a five-free brown polish with a hint of shimmer called Espresso On 3rd ($18 usd). If you had told me I would wear a frosty brown polish, like, ever, I would have said NO. Then I put this beauty on and it was love at first sight. The Lauren B Nail Perfecter ($20 usd) is a ridge filler/tinted base coat hybrid that creates a perfect canvas for smooth application. We like to call these polishes “nail undies”. The Lauren B Gel-Like Top Coat ($28 usd)ensures a glossy, cushiony surface that lasts for days. Feast your eyes:
I’m always happy to discover a new beauty line, and finding one full of heart and passion that is also gentle makes me happy. Verdict? Love.
