I have always loved the idea of natural and organic cosmetics but to be honest, what I have encountered has been a little too crunchy granola for my liking. I like natural, pure and good, but come on. I also like GLAM! Why else would I want pretty glossy lips? So, along comes Revolution Organics, which is (from their site) “the vanguard of an organic revolution that will forever change the face, body and soul of the prestige beauty market”. Their products contain 100% USDA certified organic ingredients and use fragrances that are derived from the oils of 100% organically grown flowers. Wow! So far so incredible! But can this be too good to be true? Can I have fabulous color and a pleasing soft texture from something that is good for me? Turns out that the answer is yes.
Revolution Organics Freedom Lip Gloss
Let me start off by saying I am a tried and true lip gloss woman. Lipstick is just a bit too high maintenance for my lifestyle. I have tried and own many lip glosses and my favorites are the ones that deposit color, moisturize and just feel good. And, after reading that women consume, on average, between 4 to 7 pounds of lipstick over their lifetime, I also like to feel good about what is IN the stuff I wear on my lips.
Revolution Organic Freedom Gloss is all of these things. It has a lovely soft buttery texture that smoothes over the lips in a way that feels like a balm- not goopy or sticky. This is key for me- if you have hair that may get stuck on your lip gloss…. then brush the collar of your shirt with pink then you know what I mean. Just because it is called “gloss” doesn’t mean it needs to look like you have a thick layer of newly Windex-ed glass on your lips. The best lip gloss has an effect which is both appealing and subtle. This is not an issue with the silky smooth Freedom Gloss. I tried the Freedom Gloss in Truth, which is a lovely fuchsia pink. It is fairly sheer, but buildable if you like a little more color. I can have a soft pink glow or add a little more for a brighter fuchsia lip with more oomph. The taste and smell are neutral, which is fine by me, as I find strong smelling cosmetics distracting. I wear perfume when I want scent, and I don’t like my lip gloss competing. The staying power is average, as this is a lip gloss. It does need to be reapplied after drinking or eating, but considering the stat I quoted above, I feel a lot better about what is going into my body when I’m wearing Revolution Organics. The fact that the Revolution formula is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants means the gloss delivers all the benefits of a lip treatment while giving your lips a pretty burst of color.
At $26 USD Freedom Gloss is not inexpensive, but Revolution is not selling a cheap item. This is a prestige beauty item containing top quality 100% USDA certified organic ingredients. It does feel luxurious and it leaves my lips feeling soft & moisturized. And, as is the case with most high end beauty products, a little goes a long way. Revolution Organics now has an online store up & running on their site http://www.revolutionorganics.com/ in addition to being available at many online and bricks & mortar retailers in the US and Canada- see the site for a comprehensive list of retailers.
Credit must be given to the Revolution Organics creators Melissa Shabinsky and Alexandra Zanella who followed their dreams and hearts to simplify their lives and to make healthy, responsible lifestyle choices. They, like many of us, found the labels on products making organic and natural claims to be confusing. The USDA organic standards are exacting and anything less than that is murky at best with no guarantees of any kind. So sticking to that high standard these ladies forged ahead with their dream, and I for one, am glad they did.
