As soon as I saw the photos for the Lippmann Girls HBO nail laquer collection, I knew I had to have it. Firstly, I love Girls. It’s an incredible show and Lena Dunham is brilliant. It’s a polarizing show, and not everyone gets it, but I think if you are at all familiar with young women who are peers of the women portrayed in the show, you need to watch it.
Ok back to the nail polish! The colours are fantastic, and all are stylish and wearable. I’m not sure how she did it, but Deborah Lippmann managed to choose the perfect colours for each woman. So far, everyone I know who watches the show has been able to spot which goes with which Girl, without being told in advance. My daughter’s boyfriend apparently even guessed without seeing any of them, that Jessa’s colour was burgundy. The colours – fab. Formulas? Hm. Love Hannah and Shoshanna. Marnie was tough as even at three coats it was streaky, like it didn’t know if it wanted to be a jelly or a cream. And the same with Jessa – three coats and it was still not opaque. So if you love Jessa, which I do, I will give it a try with four coats. Marnie was “pretty” but I’m not sure I love it enough to do four coats….perhaps I will give it a try. I’ve been wearing them with the Gel Lab system from Lippmann, and even though I can’t seem to get seven days out of a manicure, I can go four days without chipping which is miraculous for me.
These reviews were crowd-sourced, with my daughters. Em is modelling Shoshanna, and Biddy is wearing Jessa. I’m wearing Hannah and Marnie – please excuse my dry cuticles. It’s been a long cold winter. FYI – Em did a in-depth review of Hannah on her blog, The Beauty School Dropouts.
The Lippmann Girls HBO collection is available where Lippmann products are sold, and online at Deborah Lippmann’s site, for $45.
