Some skincare items become such integral parts of my routine they’re like an extension of my arm, like car keys or my mobile phone. The first one to do that was Vichy Mineral 89 & frankly it’s still my favourite hyaluronic acid serum to date.
The next skincare item to become one with my face was The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, an iconic niacinamide skincare product that took the world by storm. These two main ingredients are perfect for us oily skinned acne prone types though. Niacinamide can help improve the texture of large pores and “orange peel” skin. It has a normalizing effect on pores which can become stretched over the years, especially if you’ve spent too much time in the sun. Hi it’s me. It helps control the oil production which is again helpful.
Zinc is an ingredient anyone with acne issues should acquaint themselves with. As a skincare ingredient zinc helps reduce signs of acne while it’s anti inflammatory properties minimize acne related redness. Zinc also seems to have an effect balancing the microbiome as well as playing a role in controlling oil production. If you have bad acne benzoyl peroxide is still the gold standard but for me I find zinc is a good preventative for me.
Not everyone needs niacinamide and in fact some people are sensitive to that ingredient, and in some people it can cause irritation and redness. So for that reason once again I suggest a patch test if you haven’t used it before.
Deciem The Ordinary Salicylic Acid serum was brought back last spring to the delight of people like me! Salicylic acid is an acne/oil fighting gentle exfoliant that my skin loves and that works for me. It’s a simple no nonsense skincare staple that helps my skin stay smooth, clear and glowing. That’s about it and frankly that’s enough. I’m lost without it! I’ve got two bottles on the way as well speak.
Disclosure: Deciem has provided me with product samples in the past for review but I always end up buying more than they send me. These are honest not sponsored reviews.
