I don’t wear a lot of make up, but I do enjoy owning a lot. I usually fall in love with something, wear it right away, or stash it and wear it when I rediscover it in my drawer. Or, I become obsessed with something I Must Own, get it, and use it every day until I don’t love it anymore, or, I buy it forever and ever.
My present routine is a little bit of both. Here is what I am loving right now, pictured above, and clockwise from the top:
Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Compact: A lovely sheer buildable powder, it lasts and lasts without getting cakey or yellow. Sheer is key for me. I like to even out my skin and add a glow, not cover it up with a spackle knife. Love.
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Eye Shadow: This has been an old standby for years. I own three and will always have them in my collection: Shore, a pale nude, Cement, a cool “greige”, and Sand, a browny beige. Sand is the one I’m wearing these days, it has a slight burgundy tone that brings out the hazel in my eyes.
Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes in Black: The perfect pencil for tightlining. I am a huge love of the Aqua line from Make Up Forever, that stuff is like a make up tattoo. Love.
Clinique Lash Power Mascara: I raved about this amazing stuff here.
Tweezerman Brow Mousse: Yes, that’s right. Mousse for your eyebrows. Seriously, though, with thin eyebrows finally going the way of the dinosaur (for a long time, I hope) lovely natural brows are back. But groomed is still important! Tweezerman Brow Mousse keeps those pesky hairs in place, and doesn’t flake off or get crusty like certain clear mascaras. Love this stuff.
Tweezerman Eyenhance Pencil: This double ended pencil was part of a summer promotion from Tweezerman and is no longer available, but the single ended one still is. The best part of this pencil is the highlight end – its a perfect shimmery taupe colour that accentuates brows and eyes PERFECTLY. I use it on my lower waterline and it makes my eyes pop! A little under my brows and the inner corners of my eyes also adds sparkle. LOVE.
Eyelash Curler: Pick your favourite. All lashes should be curled – it opens the eyes like nothing else. Sometimes I use this gently heated with my hair dryer (CAUTION HERE PEOPLE) and forgo mascara altogether. My Vichy Lash Serum helps with that as well…
Urban Decay Potion Primer: I use this on my eyelids every day. This nude shade, Eden, works as a neutral shadow as well as a base, so I often just use this with nothing else. As we age, the skin around our eyes darkens, so lightening that up makes us look wide awake and a little younger!
Lancome Effacils Waterproof Protective Concealer: I’ve been using this for many years now, and have yet to find a rich creamy under eye concealer that works this well. Doesn’t crease, is NEVER cakey and doesn’t settle in the lines. It also stays put for quite awhile, even on my oily skin. Love.
Becca Beach Tint: I fell in love with this last year when I grabbed a tube of the coral toned Graperfruit Beach Tint, and it is one of my favourite blushes. It’s a cream blush that is sheer ( read: fail proof) and can be built up. The shade Fig is like a cross between a rose blush and a bronzer, and is the most natural shade of blush I have ever used. I got it in a little trial duo at the candy counter aka the little displays we have to walk by to get to the cash at Sephora.
