If there is anyone who has zero interest in following a trend, it’s Jenna Lyons. She does what she wants, wears what she wants and expresses her true self in her personal style. Everything she does feels comfortable and on her terms? She’s hugely successful, stylish as hell, and doesn’t have to be loud about anything in order to be heard.
One of my little fixations is beauty spotting in TV and film. Don’t ask me why – maybe it’s like going to someone’s house and peering in their medicine cabinet when you use the bathroom. Or so I’ve heard. Anyways, after some time on Pinterest saving amazing pics of Ms Jenna in amazing outfits reclining on various velvet sofas, I decided to find out what perfume she wore.
Jenna Lyons has mentioned in several interviews that she wears one perfume and one perfume only – Creed Silver Mountain Water. She said at her office, her arrival has been given away by a lingering wisp of Silver Mountain Water in the elevator or in a hall. In fact her perfume is so much part of her that when her son packed up and went away to camp and was concerned about being homesick, she made sure to spray his pillow with the Creed before he went away. I love all of this, the idea of becoming one with a signature scent, because it speaks to the comfort it gives the wearer as well as their loved ones.
I have had many signature scents throughout my life and while they do change, they follow a thread or are in a similar family. If you know me or spend any time with me it’s probably not hard to predict what kind of perfume I like. I wonder what scent my daughers will associate with me in the future, or even now. The scents that remind me of my mother and they are deeply comforting. Perhaps I’ll wear some vintage 1970s Guerlain Shalimar eau de cologne today – that scent feels like a warm hug from the past.
And what about Creed Silver Mountain Water? Well, it’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s one of the very few Creed’s I own and love. It’s marketed as a masculine scent but who cares, go smell it. I wear it, my husband wears it. It has this cool mineral aspect that makes the name perfectly apt. It does smell like a snowy mountain, like silver sparkly snow, and then the beautiful treatment of blackcurrant and galbanum give it such a unique and unusual soapy airiness. As soon as I read Jenna wears SMW it made complete sense. Creed Silver Mountain Water is easily in the top of the Quiet Luxury™ perfumes category. It’s not new or trendy, the scent is not loud or in your face and even the bottle has an elegance that would make it look perfect on a dresser in a Architectural Digest editorial. And at $470 USD for 100ml, the price is Quiet Luxury right as well.
PS: in an interview Jenna did with Into The Gloss there is a photo of her medicine cabinet with no less than three OTHER bottles of perfume 😮 Le Labo Bergamotte 22, Chloe by Chloe and at least one other behind the Chloe. Who knows, maybe these belong to Jenna’s partner? Let me know if you have any idea what the other perfumes behind the bottle of Chloe might be…
