Urban Decay x Game of Thrones: Review

Urban Decay released an exciting and much anticipated palette – aren’t all their releases exciting and much anticipated? I digress. This Urban Decay release was particularly special because GAME OF MOTHERF***ING THRONES, baby!

I had a lot of fun playing with this collection. Large colourful palettes are not my usual jam, but when it comes to Game of Thrones, please give me all of the things!

Now, if you know me and read this blog, you know I am a makeup minimalist and not known for heavy duty Instagram makeup looks, cut creases and intense contouring. Urban Decay posted one of my “look” photos (the second one below) on their Facebook page and the comments were mostly positive, but a few were highly critical of the fact that the look wasn’t intense enough. I don’t know what to say to that criticism except I wear makeup for my real life and that’s all. I don’t do cut creases or wear stage makeup – it’s just not me and would look odd. But that said, I had a lot of fun with these colours! Especially the purples and blues that reminded me of I used a light hand but these shades have a lot of pigment and can be made more intense easily. The pale metallics are so incredibly beautiful with holographic glitter that is like soft magical fairy dust. Never overwhelming and no disco ball effect.

The highlighter palette is subtle, gorgeous and works like a soft blusher bronzer hybrid. I love it and have been using it quite a bit, and it’s one of the prettiest highlighters in my collection.

Swatches in the same order as they are in the palette above
From left: The Night King, Dragon Smoke, Lannister Gold and Winterfell Snow
Clockwise from top left: White Walker, Daenerys Targaryen,
Cersei Lannister, Sansa Stark

Now, the looks!

My Queen of The North look below:

The North & House Stark shadows -White Walker, Hardhome & Winterfell Snow liner, lips are Sansa Stark & cheeks are lightly dusted with all the shades from the Mother of Dragons palette

Tell Cersei, I want her to know I took her lipstick. No seriously 😉

This look is House of Lannister with a dragon’s drop of Targaryen. Eyes are King’s Landing, Casterly Rock, Red Keep and House Lannister with Lannister Gold liner. Lips are Daenerys Targaryen red with Cersei Lannister bronze on top. Cheeks courtesy of the Mother Of Dragons palette.

Just parked my dragon after flying through Westeros in the West End of Ottawa 😉

This is me trying to recreate Dany’s look from the first episode of season 8. A very natural, icy look, with Stormborn and Winter Is Here blended out on the lid and lower lash line. There is a soft dusting of the Mother of Dragons highlighter palette on my cheeks. Lips are Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister, and for the stain effect I used my fingers to press and blend the colours out.

It was a cold night in the North & I wanted to see who would bend the knee for the premiere of Season 8 😉 Also, it was suitably freezing outside, so I went a little crazy with the White Walker Shadow & Winterfell Linter .

On my eyes are Bend the Knee, Stormborn and White Walker, lined on the lower lash line with The Night King, cheeks the Mother of Dragons palette and the lips are Daenerys Targaryen with Winterfell Snow liner blended in the centre. Icy drama!
