Bobbi Brown Uber Pink Collection Is Also Uber Pretty

Bobbi Brown Uber Pink Collection Is Also Uber Pretty

We all love Bobbi Brown cosmetics because she knows what flatters. She isn’t breaking ground with crazy colours, which I love too, but instead she is simply grounding. Find what flatters you, and have fun with it. And of course, pink is a universally flattering colour that, in the right shade, makes everyone looks amazing. So her Uber Pink Collection was really a natural progression. From Bobbi Brown:

Want to look and feel pretty in seconds? Try a pop of pink—it’s all you need. “From light to neutral, bright to bold, there’s a shade of pink to suit all skin tones,” Bobbi says. Featuring options for kissable lips to flirty tips, the Uber Pink collection is a totally modern monochromatic mix that can go sweet and subtle or deep and dramatic. The effect is instantly lifting, flattering and gorgeous.

I took a shine to the Be Pretty collection, which has the softer shades of nude-pink. Antigua Illuminating Bronzer has been a staple in my collection forever, and is the perfect sheer pink bronze blush. It’s an unusual bronzer-blush hybrid that I feel for immediately and cannot imagine not having handy. It’s perfect, buildable, and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin.

The real surprise in this collection for me was the lipstick. I don’t really wear lipstick, per se, but prefer sheer balm-type of lip products. But her lipstick in Pink Kiss won me over immediately – lipstick love! The perfect nude pink lip, without washing me out or looking weird and cakey on my lips, this velvety smooth semi-matte colour is da bomb.

Top it off with the pretty pretty Baby Pink Lip Gloss (which also looks lovely on it’s own) and you have a softly glam pink lip with some shine and depth.

Finally! A real grown-up lipstick I actually like and will wear. Leave it to Bobbi Brown to create a gorgeous and flattering colour that even a colour-phobe like me will wear!

Holi-Daly™ Tips For Looking Relaxed & Glowing

Holi-Daly™ Tips For Looking Relaxed & Glowing

Ah, the holidays. Time to sit back and relax with family. Sounds easy enough, right? It even “sounds” like a stress-free time. Wrong! As much as we all are stressed out by love seeing loved ones over the holidays, getting everything ready can be a bit of a stress. Decorating and readying our homes, baking and cooking, shopping and wrapping, and oh my, the parties! All the while looking rested and gorgeous. I know my skin tends to flip out a little (ahem) when I’m stressed out. I eat too much chocolate, don’t drink enough water and definitely don’t sleep as much as I should. All of this adds up to skin stress. Luckily/obviously I have some tips!

Consonant Organic Foaming Facewash

Cleanse Gently: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Consonant Organic Foaming Face Wash is the shizz. It cleanses, calms and tones while it soothes. I make a point of using this, and not experimenting with anything else, when my skin is flipping out.

Moisturize Deeply: It’s winter, and man oh man is it cold here! The furnace is going strong and the air is so dry you can almost feel the moisture leaving your skin. The Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Masque has been miraculous! It has a lovely cooling gel texture suitable for all skin types. This concentrated masque infuses dehydrated and stressed skin with optimal amounts of hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5 to replenish depleted moisture levels. I use it after I wash my face, as a treatment. Heaven!

providence perfume beauty elixir oil

Don’t Let Your Hands Be A Crime: I recently received a sample of Providence Perfume Beauty Elixir Oil. I’d read rave reviews for this liquid gold and was so excited to try it! It is recommended for hair and nails, and so far I have been using it on my hands, nails and cuticles at bedtime and can see a difference after a week. It smells like soft white flowers, but like most botanicals, the scent fades gently and is never cloying. I fell in love with it immediately, and love it even more now that my hands are so soft. From the website:

Providence Perfume Co.’s Beauty Elixir Oil for Hair and Nails is a concentrated blend of nourishing anti-oxidant rich oils that strengthen and moisturize.  100% natural and botanically based, with organic argan, camellia, coconut, avocado and neem oils, Beauty Elixir Oil adds softness and luminosity to dry hair, skin and cuticles.  Scented with uplifting essences of orange blossom, jasmine, apricot and neroli to impart a sense of fragrant well being.

Stay tuned for the hair review….

Fake Wide Awake: I love it when I dig deeply into my stash and find untested goodies. I happened to stumble upon an unopened Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener and thought, “hmmm”. It has a soft creamy pink formula with a doe foot sponge applicator and looked impossibly bright. I didn’t have a lot of faith as I applied it, then…WOW! I’m amazed and astounded at how my shadows disappeared instantly and how bright-eyed I appeared!  Seriously, if you suffer from circles and tiredness, you need to try this! I’m so glad I did, and will never be without it.

chanel les beiges compact with half moon brush

Glow A Little, Already: Easier said than done, I know, I know. But science has progressed and given us many options to brighten up dull complexions and add a little oomph. I managed to find the most luxe way to do this, thanks to Chanel. Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder is a gorgeous powder designed to make you glow. From Chanel’s website:

With an effortless touch, this innovative, versatile powder makeup enhances, brightens or bronzes the complexion for a custom glow. On its own, it heightens skin’s natural beauty; over foundation, provides a sheer, luminous finish. Advanced technology protects against skin-dulling environmental stressors, while White Rose and Cotton Flower offer absolute comfort for even the most sensitive complexions. In seven no-fail shades; each, with its own sculpted half-moonbrush.

People. It does what it says. I use #20, which is pretty much my skin tone. I want #30, which is more tan than I am. It is super sheer, fine-milled and buildable, so you can safely play with a shade that makes you glow a little. I love everything about Chanel Les Beiges, including the Chanel Retractable Kabuki Brush that feels like unicorn eyelashes giving you butterfly kisses on your cheeks.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Emerveillé

Add Some Extra Glow, Because You Probably Need It: I was watching an amazing Lisa Eldridge make up video where she gave an amazing radiance tip. Using her fingers, she smudged a little Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Emerveillé on her cheekbones for a super subtle and elegant glow. I add a little smudge to the inside of my eyes and the cupid’s bow on my lips – the soft rose tone works beautifully with most skin tones.

How are you glowing right now? Share your secrets!

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color & Sheer Color Lip Gloss – Pink Popsicle Lips!

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color & Sheer Color Lip Gloss – Pink Popsicle Lips!

I’m always drawn to the Bobbi Brown counter. Everything is so lovely and wearable, especially for those of us who like our make up on the natural neutral side of things. The textures are lovely, the smell is just right (or non existant) and the packaging is clean and modern. I was kind of excited to try her new Creamy Matte Lip Color (using the US spelling of “color” as that is how BB is spelling it…) as once again, the shades looked so wearable and, well, pretty. I have been obsessing about a raspberry lip colour and had planned on buying Bobbi Brown Sheer Color Lip Gloss in Popsicle- it really is the perfect shade of raspberry! But then I tried Creamy Matte Lip Color in True Pink and was sold.

The texture is, well, creamy and matte. I would not recommend applying this right from the lipstick itself as you would a regular lipstick. It’s very thick and concentrated, and works best applied with a brush, or even fingers. What I love about it is that it takes on the look of a stain- but again, only if applied with a light hand. If you lips are the dry or flaky, do not use this lipstick until you have exfoliated and moisturised those babies! I love the subtle shot of colour Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color gives you when worn alone, and the lovely punch of colour when you wear it under Bobbi Brown Sheer Color Lip Gloss in Popsicle! The soft pretty pink is fun, pretty and flattering.

Fall comes to my back yard…

Music: Fall always feels a bit sad to me. The end of summer, winter around the corner, shorter days….Yet, there a sweetness to that sadness. The way the sky is lit only in fall, the heavy sky, and the scents in the air. That earthy loamy scent of damp earth and leaves, the unmistakable scent of woodsmoke in the air, and of course the delicious cooking smells of roasts, soups and stews. So yes, sad, but also sweet. I’m enjoying it while I can….

Reading/Watching: Just finished the magical and beautifully touching Touch by Alexi Zentner. It’s a story of a family history, three generations of a pioneering family in the Canadian wilderness, and full of magic. Touch introduces you to a world of monsters and witches, singing dogs and golden caribou. Are the stories we hear from our grandparents true? Is there really magic? I like to think so. At once dreamy and riveting, Touch is also a finalist for the prestigious Governor General’s Literary Award for fiction.

Food: I always dread the end of summer. Change of seasons from warm to cold? No thanks. Yes, I know fall is gorgeous blah blah blah. But it’s also the season of seasonal colds and general Run-Down-Ness. Days get shorter, and the school routine means up and at ’em at an early hour. I’ve been a believer of the curative and preventative magic of Emergen-C ever since my girlfriend let me in on her sure-fire hangover secret. I find it helps me stave off illness, dehydration and general malaise. But there is an even better side effect to having Emergen-C from time to time. Hydrated glowing skin. Yes, that’s right. I see a marked difference in the elasticity and appearance of my skin when I stay hydrated, but if I’ve had too much coffee, too little water or whatever, Emergen-C in water puts the apples back in my cheeks.

Fashion: A big cozy sweater! It’s been chilly and being warm, comfy AND stylish is very important! I love my burgundy wool TNA cardigan from Aritzia. So much, actually, that I may have to go back for the dark grey one….

Skincare: Serums!!! If you’d asked me a year ago if I would replace almost all my face creams and lotions for serums, I would have said no way. I never knew serums could work such magic on my skin until I tried Skinceuticals. Their Blemish & Age Defence Serum is truly the stuff of miracles for that hateful dichotomy of aging skin that is plagued by pimples. Boo! Thankfully, Skinceuticals Blemish & Age (also a Fall Favourite)  has saved me!

Make Up: I am loving my new Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lipcolour. Review to come…this stuff is awesome! On it’s own, it adds seamless colour, almost like a stain, that doesn’t scream LOOK AT MY LIPSTICK. And it also looks pretty and kissable with some yummy Bobbi Brown lipgloss layered on top. Stay tuned for review!

Perfume: I’m just loving The 7 Virtues Afghanistan Orange Blossom these days. It’s always perfect, never too much, and smells sexy, feminine and clean at the same time. It is a calming and soothing scent as well- so easy to wear. I love orange blossom perfumes in the fall. Last year it was By Kilian Sweet Redemption, and this year The 7 Virtues. I just seem to reach for it more than anything else…for now.

What are you loving this fall?

Bobbi Brown Bath Perfume – Good Clean Fun

Bobbi Brown Bath Perfume – Good Clean Fun

I’m nothing if not a woman of broad tastes. I can appreciate vintage Guerlain Aprés L’Ondee parfum, swoon over it’s heartbreaking beauty while weeping over it’s unavailability while I watch bottles as rare as gems sell for many thousands on ebay. But, I am not a perfume snob, and I can appreciate something that makes my skin smell lovely, no matter what the price tag says. Which is both a good and a bad thing….

One of my favourite, easy, cheap and cheerful perfume is Bobbi Brown’s Bath. It is meant to evoke that squeaky clean feeling one has after the bath- obviously- and does a good of it. It’s chock full of soapy and wonderful orange blossom and neroli that blooms on the skin, with a gentle note of water hyacinth that adds a watery aspect. It is uncomplicated, like a simple cologne, and as easy to wear as a white t shirt. It is definitely a soapy perfume, and an unapologetic one at that. I would say this is pretty much Ivory soap, and I have always loved the scent of Ivory. Wet and warm freshly scrubbed skin, good clean fun…

This perfume is particularly lovely in extreme heat, as you have that just jumped out of the bath (or shower) feeling. And for a soapy cologne scent that does not cost the moon, I get amazing longevity from Bobbi Brown Bath- maybe 3-4 hours, even in the heat. It is perfect for daytime, and also lovely for a night out, maybe on a patio with a nice cool drink. This sweet little perfume has garnered me so many compliments when I wear it, one wonders if we really might be over thinking our perfumes. I’ve been stopped by strangers asking me what perfume I’m wearing. It makes me think of a line from one of my favourite movies, Amadeus, when Emperor Joseph II tells Mozart that his music “is quality work….there are simply too many notes”.

I got mine at Murale  (it is available on their website) in Canada, and I have seen at the Bobbi Brown cosmetic counter recently as well. But I see that it is no longer on her website, and is “unavailable” on the Nordstrom site. Hm. Maybe it’s going to be discontinued? For the bargain $48 I paid, I may go buy another bottle as back up.
