My Clarisonic® Mia 2 Has Made Washing My Face A Bionic Experience

I joined the revolution! The Sonic Revolution, that is! I resisted as long as I could, but after hearing from one person after the other how happy they were with their Clarisonic® Face Brush cleaning system. I was sure I didn’t really *need* one, but, I said that about the iPad as well. Famous last words, as they say. My dear friend and, my most trusted Sales Associate at Holt Renfrew, has been singing the praises of Clarisonics for years (you can buy them there!). She has gorgeous skin, and pretty much always right.

So, what is the Sonic Method, you ask? Firstly, it doesn’t spin! That was news to me, as I just assumed it spun around. Unlike spinning devices, Clarisonic’s patented sonic technology works with your skin’s natural elasticity, oscillating at a sonic frequency that produces over three hundred movements per second. This results in a flexing action between the outer and inner brushes, which helps to loosen dirt and oil on the skin, removing deep-seated impurities from pores and priming skin to better absorb topical treatments. And this is the truth. Washing your face cleans it, but sometimes you need to get a little deeper than a surface cleansing, without exfoliating. I’m all for exfoliating, but it’s important to be gentle to one’s skin as well.

Now, that’s not to say that the Clarisonic exfoliates, because it doesn’t. It cleanses, deeply, like right inside those pores, but it doesn’t remove a layer of skin. That is miracle of the silky soft brushes and the magical oscillation. I thought, like many do, I imagine, that Clarisonic was an exfoliating device, and I was concerned that it would irritate my sensitive acne prone skin. And, like any new routine, I had to figure out how often and when I would use it. Even though it is gentle enough to use twice a day,  my skin is happiest if I use the Clarisonic around three times a week. The reality is, I wear very little make up, and my skin just doesn’t get *that* dirty.

I have found, like many before me, that my skincare products seem to work best, while using less, when I use my Clarisonic regularly. I am a big serum lover, and regular use of my Clarisonic means I use less product. My skin feels softer and smoother – which seems bizarre as it’s not being exfoliated. But it does! I use glycolic acid products, and retinols, and the Clarisonic brush doesn’t irritate my face at all. It’s actually a soothing experience to use it. I use it with Dove Soap of course, and with my new favourite foaming cleanser, Consonant Organic Foaming Face Wash. This cleanser has calmed my seasonal crazy skin breakouts – stay tuned for that review. I seriously can’t imagine being with this cleanser.

I'm pretty sure The Bionic Woman used a Clarisonic. Look at that skin!

I have the Clarisonic® Mia 2 – the classic Clarisonic® bumped up a notch, with two speeds, a travel case and a two year warranty. It comes in a few colours but I like the classic white. It looks professional and sterile, plus it matches my white themed bathrooms. The travel case is perfect too – keeps the brush and device clean while it bounces around in my cosmetic bag.

The Clarisonic® Mia 2 is available for purchase for $175 CAN on their website, and at select retailers. Use their Store Locator to find one near you.
