I was very excited when my friend Elena called me to tell me my Lippmann Gel Lab set was in at Holt’s. They are selling out everywhere so I had to order it. A gel mani I can do at home? With no equipment? That works with all my nail polishes? Yes please!

How gorgeous is It’s Raining Men? LOVE

I notice that my nails feels thicker and harder immediately. And they definitely have that cushy glossy look of a gel mani. I’m using Lippmann It’s Raining Men for my 2nd Gel Lab mani and the first one was with a sheer OPI. It lasted 4 days without a chip. I always have my hands in hot water (hand washer) and am just generally hard on my nails (clumsy). I think my best solution is to keep my nails as short as possible so they don’t get banged around too much. I also love the chic look of short clean nails. They look great with sheers, pale, brights and especially with darks and reds. So this rich cherry red with put the Gel Lab top and base coat to the test! Stay tuned.

The Gel Lab kit ($45)  is available online . Check here for international retailers and here for US retailers.

OPI Quarter of A Cent-Cherry: A Saucy & Naughty Red Polish

Wow. This is a va-va-voom red. I am seriously in love with this OPI shade that was, not surprisingly, from their 2006 25th Anniversary Collection. It is part of their regular collection now, and thank goodness for that. It’s a deep cherry red, that tends to be deep & dark rather than bright. In certain lighting it’s almost vampy, which is rather cool and shape-shifter-y of it. It’s got a juicy, almost jelly finish that also wears quite well, for a red. Putting a top coat on daily (quick-dry, takes 2 minutes!) helps longevity. I used 2 coats of OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry with Lippmann Hard Rock base coat and Lippmann Addicted to Speed top coat. Perhaps it could use 3 coats? It’s hard to say. Anyways, I love it, and have been wanting to wear it every day.

OPI Quarter of a Cent-Cherry is available where OPI is sold. I bought a new bottle this week after Biddy had a horrible nail polish accident with the old one. Her foot is healing well.

We all need a red nail polish. Some of need more red nail polishes than others. Because, as you likely know if you are reading this, every red is different. Some lean towards the orange end of the spectrum. Some are more blue. Some are dark, dramatic & vampy, and some are sheer and yummy jellies. Somehow, Deborah Lippmann It’s Raining Men manages to straddle all of these categories and make itself The Perfect Red. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not The Only Red, as I don’t believe that exists. There are many Perfect Reds, and quite often how a particular shade of red works on one depends on skin tone and personal style.

Check out the geranium in the background…glowing red!

These days, I am enjoying a cheery red. A nice yummy bright red, with a little orange to brighten it up for warmer weather, but with enough blue in it that it doesn’t wash me out. Pure orange is not a good colour for me, but a rich Chinese red or vermillion has just enough orange to make the red pop and give it a glow. The closest dupe for this colour would be OPI Red My Fortune Cookie but Lippmann It’s Raining Men is just a wee bit bluer. A base of Lippmann Rehydrating Base coat, two coats of It’s Raining Men and finish off the mani with a coat of Lippmann Addicted To Speed and voila! A shiny juicy red!

What is sexier than a red mani or red pedi? A deep vampy shade comes close I suppose, but for now, I am vamping around in my deliciously bright red It’s Raining Men…
